Caliper Painting / Powder Coating

Hello, I’m looking to get my 2010 Camaro SS calipers painted or powder coated. I’d prefer to do powder coating because I believe that is more durable. However, would i need to buy rebuild kits for the calipers once I get it back? Also how hard in general is it to get the calipers broken down just to the metal so they can be powder coated. Would the brakes need bled once putting the calipers back on? On the flip side, would it be worth it to just use a G2 kit with the calipers still on the car? I’ve heard good things but I want something that lasts long and looks good. Thanks for the input!

The G2 kit looks amazing when its done. If you're trying to build a museum car.. powder coating is probably the way to go. But if its a daily driver, or a car to have fun with.. the G2 kit looks amazing. You can go a step beyond, and after paint apply Brembo stickers then spray 4-5 coats of gloss clear.. the result is amazing. And you don't have to tear them apart.. Just my 2 cents.

I would go powder coating, I did the G2 way a few years back and just didn't like the way they looked, looked "painted". lol. I had mine powder coated by Madison Powder Coating, you can find Kevin who did mine on FB. Or call him 608-721-6494. He offers an exchange program which is what I did as my Camaro was a daily. They looked so good I didn't want to install them, have been on the car for 2 trs now and still look new !!

How much did he charge you? What was the turnaround time? We’re the calipers you received already built? Did you have to have the brakes bled once you put them back on?

They cost me 1000 bucks of which 600 is a refundable core charge, so 400 is what it cost outright. If you have a set to send him, it would only be 400 bucks. The time from order to getting them I think was about 3 weeks because he had to wait for a core to come in and he had a lot back logged to catch up on, but is was well worth the wait. And yes when I got them back they were already rebuilt as he does that and YES, anytime you take the brakes apart you will need to "bleed" them to get the air out of the system.

Given it's a 2010 car, I would have the calipers rebuilt after painting.

Obviously, when you reinstall them, you have to bleed the brakes. And again, given the age of the car, the brake system should be flushed so that you have fresh brake fluid everywhere in the system.

I taped mine up on the car....roughed it up with some 200 grit and shot it with Rustoleum rattle can......bought some eBay Brembo stickers...and 5 years later, it still looks new.
Just sayin....
Good luck.

I rattle canned mine and used a high temp sticker.

I went more subdued since my body color is silver, wheels are black.....

Note that the calipers have been painted for about a year before this photo.

EDIT 2: straightened up the photo!

I used G2 on mine. It went on easy and looks great. But I am starting to get some chipping and pieces falling off. It started right where the holes are for the steel pins.

I was considering repainting with G2 again but I may just get them rebuilt and powder coated. Much better color options that way.

That’s what I’m afraid of. I want to do it once so I may as well just spend the money and do it right.

If you have the cash go and get them powder coated. I painted mine years ago for $10 and didn't have to take apart the calipers.
