Talking Stopped in and looked at a Boss 302 this morning and ended up...

... at the sales person when he mentioned a $10,000 "market adjustment". They wanted $53,000!

I'm a little hesitant to admit that I spent some time in a Ford Dealer looking at a GT500...I had some time after work one day.

They had a '12 Shelby listed for 55,000 with the Recaro seats and the SVT pack. They were willing to take 1000 off the price, whereas the Boss LS inside had a 10,000 adjustment bringing it to 55 and some change...

So how do you guys feel about the " market adjustments " on the ZL1 then? More so because there is a markup on a car that doesn't even have a MSRP

I've heard they are upwards of 15K at some dealers.....

I'd have no issues getting into a GT500 or Boss and I'm a hardcore GM guy.

I don't like the concept of a market adjustment on anything. I think the worst in recent history was the 2009 Challenger SRT8s...20, 25k over MSRP...

But business is business. And I really want a ZL1. If I couldn't get MSRP, I'd wait...

ZL1 adjustment shouldn't be too bad since they aren't making them a limited edition like the Boss. If you want one of the first ones, however, you will pay.

Don't want to pay the adjustment? Don't buy.

Once the dealers know that they can't sell it for that price they will drop it down. If they can move it then it's what the market can bare then it's fair. Early adopters always have to pay the premium. Just wait it out until it's in full production. Then patronize the dealers that you believe were "fair".

My local Ford dealer (where I got my 11 GT500 for $4k under MSRP) used their 1 allocation for a Boss Laguna Seca for a customer, they settled at MSRP of a little over $47k. 50 miles south to another dealer has one on the floor priced @ $25k over MSRP.

Markup on the Laguna Seca models can be insane. I actually might be in the market myself could I find a dealer who still has one who would talk msrp. Of course, the only reason that any of them still have one left is because they won't take msrp.

I just don't like the colors on the Laguna Seca model..... I've seen one in person up a VIR, just don't like the black and red.

well when the Camaro came out.....the Chevy dealers around Houston were asking adn getting $5k to $7k OVER MSRP......and with the ZL1 being a VERY limited production.....with the insite and knowledge of the upper manangement of a dealer, has said the markup will be in the ballpark of $10k to $15k over MSRP......its all about money.

Yeah, I actually don't care for the color combos myself although I really like the rest of the package. I did come up with a solution though, which is why I would currently consider one if I could even find one at a price that made driving one to see if I actually like the car enough to drop over 40k on one palatable.

I would replace all of the red exterior trim with matte black trim. The wheels, grille surround, roof, mirrors, and spoiler would all be super simple since they are actually separate components that can easily be repainted individually. The only hanging point would be the side tape stripes, and I already discussed that with my preferred paint and body guy who said that having these replicated in matte black and removing the originals should be no big deal.
