I like the idea of a zippy small V8, along the lines of the original Z28. As long as it still gets pretty good torque, I'm all for the smaller, higher tech Gen V.

I like the idea of a gen5 engine. But I don't want to give up displacement.

Gen V. hands-down, no argument.
There is no replacement for displacement, but we've got to shift gears, so to speak, and shrink the engines. We can't very well start offering 427's as the base V8s in cars, and a few years later put 572s in the base car, etc...It has to be kicked down somewhere. That's where the GenV's come in. |

Gen V please, any displacement. If they were to make it a 5.7L . . . the streets will once again fear the chevy 350 small block. Should make 450 hp or so, depending on tuning. With mileage possibly breaking the 30 mpg mark.

I go with Gen V. Higher tech is a good thing for fuel economy and that needs to be considered in this day and age. I still want a V8 but I also need to able to drive daily.

Just a question,
What happens when those same smart people work on improving the power and efficiency in a V8 engine. Is it possible to concieve that they can engineer a V8 that produces more power at the same fuel consumption of a V6? All things being equal (including smart engineers), a V8 will produce more power than a V6, and a V6 will always be more fuel efficient than a V8. Ok maybe not always, I guess someone could make a 700ci V6 that would consume more fuel than a 350ci V8

I'll take as big an engine I can get; hopefully with a supercharger. It's just easier, to my understanding, to make more power with larger displacement. I can definately see the side of the coin where technology and smaller displacements have advantages, and I'm all for efficiency, but I can conceed a little for a lot more power. I just want the most hairy Camaro I can get from the factory; I don't plan on DD'ing the car, so I'm not too concerned about gas, although, I'm not Mr. Money Bags by any stretch.
I voted 6.2L only for the potential, in my mind, to make more power easier.

I went with the Gen V choice, but I'd be a little unsure about the 5.0L (conjures memories of the 3rd gens...not our proudest years, even if it is my personal favorite convertible).

If I remember correctly, a smaller engine can burn more efficiently because there is less area for the flame to ignite. It that's the case, the smaller the better, in terms of efficiency, however, with Direct Injection, it is my understanding that atomization of the fuel is more complete, therefore, more of the fuel is burned, producing more efficiency. I don't see a reason why a larger engine couldn't be as efficient as a smaller one, although, it would use more fuel simply due to it's displacement; right?...
