Rumor or truth? Top end V8 engine details...
Who can tell... I would trust the source though as he is a mod...

Who is this guy and who did he hear it from ......
Its sounds like rumor to me because i think i remember GM bashing the LS9 and LSA for the camaro. Also, i dont think they will weigh that much.

He's a mod on that site, and that site is run by some very reliable guys (one is a disciple).
Several of the very reliable people there are acknowleding and discussing it as if its true.. who knows though... I wouldnt take it as fact until we get some confirmationl.

So basically, the camaro (according to this guy) will have a base V8 called the SS with the 430hp LS3, weigh around 3900lbs and still run the 1/4 mile in 12.7 seconds. And all of this will be under $30K because although this will be a 'premium' car, it needs to compete with the mustang and challenger. And just to compare, a challenger that goes for around $40K, runs the 1/4 mile in 13.2 seconds. Do i understand all that correctly?
Wow, if what this guy said is true. Damn this car is gonna be a steal!

I can't imaging a Z28 being such a fatty. It is supposed to be the nimble track car. I'm very much hoping this isn't true. GM really needs to work on weight for all its cars, and this would be 10 steps backwards.

I can believe everything said there but in the back of my head the weight just seems too high. Fbodfather has said that jenny craig has helped in the production developement of the car so i dont know.

its not unreasonable -it falls in line with what some have guessed. If the source is generally reliable that adds to the truthyness. I'd rate it at 50% likely. May not seem that great, but compared to some of the way out there 'facts' its not so bad.
I'm surprised by the power and weight. I didn't expect to see them claiming the 'SS' 3900 lbs, thats what I thought it would be for the SS but I figured that would include a supercharger and intercooler. I figured the Z28 comming in at 3750 or so. And both those power estimates seem 5-10% higher than I expected, but I like to be conservative. So that puts them right on the mark with our guestimation. BUT since this coincides with estimates, its reasonable to think that these were merely formulated from whats been said, then claimed as truth. We will know what the truth is in a few months. Until then we might as well figure that the camaro will have a pair of 1.3L 3 cylinder turbo diesel engines (one for front, one for rear).

This guy has been there 10 years. He's a moderator. I looked through other posts by shawn and found no other "inside info". But, if you read the posts after his statement, nobody questions the informations authenticity.
My first thing is 3900 lbs for normally aspirated V8? Wow, if true, that's only 95 lbs less than the G8 GT 4-door. I guess that's possible. And with supercharger - 100 lbs more - seems reasonable now, when compared to normally aspirated weight. SS = entry V8 - LS3 --------EDIT: Or similar engine Z28 = Supercharged LSA ----EDIT: Or similar engine They already have the Z28 on the dyno? Maybe I will wait for the Z28... Pontiac G8 GXP w/ LS3 403hp, manual trans GM statement: Pending final testing, the G8 GXP is expected to deliver 0-to-60 mph performance of about 4.7 seconds, and a quarter-mile time of 13.0 seconds at 108 mph. So I guess -"The SS is still going to be 430hp from a LS3 (3900lbs). It's gone 12.7@113 in testing." seems about right. What does eveyone else think? Fbodfather - Please tell us what percentage of this is accurate...

I guessed 3855 for the base V8 Camaro. Hearing around 3900 means that a certain person on here would be eating his words. I'd be just fine with 3850-3900lbs out of it. I'm not buying the V8 to be the fastest car on the road, I'm buying it because it's a Camaro V8 and one the baddest looking things on the road, has a great warranty, will run circles around most anything, will get decent mileage, and because I WANT one damn it! |

Just for comparison for you guys/gals. 12.7 @ 113mph would rate rather well if the price point for the base V8 is around 30K
