Is The 6 Gen really better then the 5

I Love my ZL1 . There is a lot of people out there talking about how great the new 6th Gen is and saying it is so much better of a car them the 5th .
Well maybe the SS is when it comes to the numbers but it is a lot smaller inside and I am not impressed with the way the new interior looks .

Now think about this the new top of the line Vett Z06 comes with 650 HP for 100,000.00 . The new CTS. V comes with 640 HP for 83,995. Chevy is not going to make the new top of the line Camaro with more HP then the Z06 and if the new top of the line Camaro fallows the CTS V like it has in the past we are looking at a Camaro with 640 HP for 80,000. Now I took my 2014 ZL1 (that cost me 55,000) and drop 5000.00 in upgrades in it and have 728 HP at the crank ..... I think I will just keep my ZL1 .

It depends on what you are talking about when you say better. From you post I assume you are talking mainly about HP. To me it's better in every way and will rule once it gets more power.

There is no Gen6 ZL1 to compare to a Gen5 ZL1 ....yet, so not sure why this is in the ZL1 section.

But I do want to see what the next ZL1/Z28 brings us...and I suspect it will be a step up to our current ZL1's.

Of course it is going to be better. When they do bring out the next ZL1 it will be lighter, have more HP with an 8 speed transmission, and a better suspension. Do you really think a car company is going to redesign a car and make it uglier, heavier and slower?

Oh Wait, Never Mind.....

Ford did that with the 2015 Mustang!

The new SS will dominate the 5.0 and challenger. Won't even be close, which leaves me wondering if the SS is that good, what will the ZL1 or z28 do.
I love my 5th gen but the possible weight difference and how easy the LT4s can mod to 900whp on pump gas is really impressive. Throw in possible Carbon ceramic brakes and handling.. I will definitely entertain the thought of upgrading in the future

. I think the next supercharged Camaro would go for a little higher than the price of the hellcats. so 70-74k on release then continue to drop in price over time. The Cadillac branding simply allows the cts-v to be marked up to 80k+

The gen 6 car is approx 300 lbs lighter than a comparable model gen 5.........that's a good thing any day.

We are talking V6 and SS, yes, on both.
Styling is subjective, so to some, the 5th Gen is better, but if we look at the objective data, 6th Gen FTW

Better is subjective. I don't like the styling, or the busy interior. I will hold total judgement until I see the upper models, but 640 crank hp is nothing I would bother upgrading for, when that is super easy to do with the LSA. I also believe the new z whatever is going to be priced too close to a Vette, so that will most likely be my next choice if I ever decide to add another car.

Fbodfather said it back in 2011, that in the future (which is around now) that because of the CAFE, while V8s will still be around, it will be significantly more pricey to own one. Which means you're going to start cutting out the part of Camaro which historically allowed for V8 in an economical package. Price point will effectively force those currently with the means that can just afford a 2015 SS to only be able to buy a V6 or I4 in the future.

70-80K Camaros are not going to be volume cars. Not anymore.

Just historically speaking, I remember when the "ban" was lifted on GM big inch engines in 1970 model year and that was basically the boom year of muscle cars. But EPA stepped in and in 1971 it was the downhill ride from there. I think we're getting there again soon. Very soon. They'll find a different way to skin that cat, but it won't be with HP ratings.

performance wise no doubt. 4 second 0-60 and a 12.2 qtr mile?? that's in line with some of the worlds best sports cars. local dealer lots now posting many 'in transit' '16's. 31k for a base 1LT and 49k for top of the line SS.

The 6th Gen is/will be a great car no doubt.

My only worry with the high end models 2SS(modded), ZL1 or Z/28 is the durability.

The 5th Gen platform proved itself to be very robust and solid form the start. Our ZL1 have huge upsides when modding. The drivetrains are a solid as you get.

With the lighter weight platform we'll just have to wait and see how this plays out on the 6th Gen.

Over time I believe it will fall short of the Gen 5 over all .

There are a couple of things I don't like about the new gen. (My personal opinion only)
- It's smaller inside and much smaller rear seat
- I prefer the simplicity of the ZL1's drivetrain design and how well it takes to mods. DI motors, variable cam etc are great but I love the LSA drivetrain.
- I think the ZL1 is gorgeous, I love the first gen influences and the overall look of the car. Even the stock black ten spokes are some of the best wheels I've ever seen on a factory car. People talk about the interior being crappy but I actually love it, especially with the Recaros. The first gen cues are awesome.

The Gen 6 has a lot going for it especially that new 8 speed auto and upgraded interior but for me it's not worth spending the money to upgrade.

I own an ATS (wifes car) and can appreciate the quality of that chassis. That said I'm more of a straight line drag racing guy who does the odd autocross or 7/10th's lapping day. For a drag racing application the ZL1 I have is absolutely perfect.
