Power Steering Issues

I have been having power steering problems for quite a while now. I kept getting the "service power steering" message and had to restart car to reset it. The dealership replaced my rack 2 times and tried several other things before GM put the kibosh on my warranty when they finally found out how modded my car is and the I have the factory ground "moved" a few inches for new CAI. Well, I just had some transmission work done and had a used motor only that I was able to buy off Ebay from a 2014 1LE. Because they don't sell motor only for our cars. You have to buy the whole rack system to the tune of $1000 plus instillation. Well, I have power steering now, but, it still sends the codes but doesn't go out. But, it makes like "popping" noises when I turn the wheel. Sounds kinda like old school bad ball joints or something like that. But, I know I don't actually have any "hardware" issues because the dealership put 2 new racks in it and the one in now doesn't have more than a few hundred miles on it. Anybody have any idea what it could be or how to fix it? The code the shop saw was UO 126 - lost communication with steering wheel angle sensor module. Any help is appreciated.

There are alot of threads here about this issue. If I remember correct your ground wire is the problem. Go to a heavier wire and reground it to some other place [look for the thread on this site to find out where] and make sure you are getting good contact on the ground. Andy at ADM had a very good thread about a "fix" for this problem. I would look it up for you but I am lazy this morning!

Correct. Many steering issues supposedly were caused by people that moved the ground cable when installing a cai. Evidently our electric steering is VERY sensitive to a GOOD ground.

Even though I'm sure you prepared the metal surfaces good when you moved the ground, just to eliminate the possibility, temporarily , take the cai off if need be, but put the ground wire back to the stock location. Heck, I'd even splurge on a brand new ground cable either high quality aftermarket or a new GM cable while you're at it.

Some of the earlier reports also seemed to suspect loose/intermittent connections to the steering box. I believe there was a TSB about checking that cable connector and using some sort of electrical grease and repack/re-connect that connection.

As Bigtime says, do a search, there's been many threads on this issue.
