Decal Removal

How hard is it to remove factory or aftermarket hood stripes and decals? What affect might a removal have on the underlying paint?
Thanks.

Hood stripes are vinyl so you should be able to peel them off. Migh have some adhesive residue left behind, but that should be easy to remove too. Your paint will be fine.

Dealer told me that hood stripes can be easily removed if done within the first 60 days of their application. After that time period, some discolorization of the underlying paint could occur, depending upon whether or not the vehicle was subject to long periods of direct sunlight.

Easy to remove. Let car sit in the sunlight for a few hours. Then hit it with a heat gun, if you're experienced with a heat gun. If not experienced, then use a hair dryer on high. The hair dryer will take longer but less chance of damaging anything. Then slowly peel it off.

Only one way to find out what the paint looks like. Every paint, every pigment, every car's UV exposure... is different. If it's out of whack, just put new stripes back in the exact same spot.

You can take them off a lot longer than 60 days. I've taken vinyl off years later and it peeled right off with heat and the paint was perfect. A little bit of goo gone and alcohol will clean the residue right up. If the car is mainly garaged, I'd bet the paint will be perfectly fine.
