Yes, Phulled Over by Da PohLeece, again :(
Ok, a fun almost 200 mile cruise today! Not too much traffic, great road I hadn't taken out there before (great twisites!!); over 22 mpg (lots of slow going in Hemet, traffic lights, etc); great lunch in Idyllwild, then home...
Back road, very little traffic, fairly straight, cruise set at 70 mph, speed limit, 55 mph. Yes, I know, I'm speeding...coming the other direction, I finally made out the Highway Patrol Expedition - too late. Cruise off, slowly apply the brakes, down to 60 mph. I look back after he passes me, and sure enough, he's turning around. Ok, I'm getting a ticket, another one deserved too! I pull off my driving gloves, slide open the sunroof shade, check the seat, slow down even more so he can easily catch up to me, and proceed to make my normal right turn from Highway 74 onto Highway 371, and I see his lights on. So, fully pull off the road, lower both windows, shut off the stereo, turn off the car, pull off my sunglasses, and put both hands on the wheel. He walks up on the drivers side, since I pulled over far enough. Did you know you were doing 71 mph in a 55? Uh, no, sorry officier. Let me see your license. Ok, my license is my left pocket (pointed to it), and I will reach over to the glove box for my registration & insurance card - which he didn't ask me for. Ok, he says. Very nice car you have here - thank you sir. He asks if I am a photographer - he sees my Nikon DSLR on the passenger seat - no sir, just taking pictures. Where are you heading? I pull out one of the multi-sheet maps from on my passenger seat, and show him I'm coming from Idyllwild and hopefully made the correct turn to go back to San Diego. Oh, and the correct address is on the back of my license, sir. He writes down a few things on the back of some paper - I assume the car, year, color, plate, and license number, then says, speed limit is 55 mph, be safe and have a good day. YES SIR! Thanks and YOU have a good day too!! I put my gloves back on, slowly roll back onto the pavement from the dirt, and cruise on home with no other incidents. Yes, once again, I deserved the ticket. Now, I write to my girlfriend and say I got pulled over, again, for speeding. I say this car attracts police like flies are attracted to poop! She replies, ahem, maybe it's because you are speeding?? Now, YES, I was and do speed - usually not more than 10 mph past, but this road was beautiful and clear, and, anyway. My point is that for as long as I am driving and riding (motorcycles) I've been speeding. Yes, I've gotten speeding tickets before, however, i don't think I've ever been pulled over (in 11 months mind you) as much as I have with this car!! Anyway! Great day! Have a great weekend! Tomorrow, I wash The Beast! Michael J.
