Different clutch with hurst shifter?

Hello everybody,

first I want to introduce myself. My name is Tim and I am reading already for some weeks in this great forum.
I am in the United States since 2.5 weeks (a work assignment from my employer brought my wife and me to Atlanta for some years)
and we both want to have a real american car and so we are planning to buy a camaro 2ss/rs. Yeah

We did already some quite funny test driving with automatic and manual , but this brought up a question and I am sure somebody here can help me.
I would like to buy the car with a manual transmission and the hurst shifter, but there was something special with the used camaro 1SS that I had for the test drive. It had an aftermarket hurst shifter installed and the clutch was really hard to push.
It felt quite sporty and I really liked it, but the camaro will be our only car for the first months and so my wife has to be able to drive it, too. And for her it was too hard to push the clutch. If this would be standard, it could be that we have to buy the automatic.
We doublechecked in a different manual whether the clutch is that hard too, but it wasn't. And now the question (sorry for the long text)

When I order a 2SS manual with the factory hurst shifter, how is the clutch? Is there a modification to the clutch when you order the hurst shifter or was the clutch modified in the car we drove? Unfortunately, the dealer could not tell us.

Thanks for your help.
Tim

I bought my 1SS with manual trans and it was stiff for the first 3,000 miles. In fact everything on the car was stiff when it was newer. It may be that I am just used to
the clutch now but it seems less stiff. Get your wife into the gym and pump some iron
that should solve the problem. Where did y'all come from if you don't mind me asking?
and welcome to the forum

The dealer had a LS3 and it felt much smoother, but that one had no hurst shifter. This is why I am asking.
She is sporty no extra need to pump iron, this made me thinking that the clutch was modified. We com from Nuremberg, so the southern part of Germany.

Welcome Tim, to the forum and to the US. Hope you enjoy it here!

It is the same clutch as Comrando said, but I disagree that the car you drove must have had an aftermarket clutch. These are hydraulic clutches and there is some degree of variance in the way they feel, especially in the first few thousand miles. I drove several manual Camaro SS cars at my dealer and found the clutches to feel different on them.

With that said, I really doubt that the stock SS clutch would be too heavy for your wife. There are lots of lady drivers of manual SS's on this forum. And I feel that the pedal seemed to require less pressure after a few thousand miles were on the car.

Thanks for your answers.

Yes, should be possible to order. They gave me an offer for a 2012 with hurst shifter.

Yes, I like it here that much, both USA and the forum. I agree with both of you, that the clutch is getting softer after some miles. But thinking about your posts, I still think, that the clutch was modified.
The clutch of the other LS3 was so much softer...

I just wanted to make sure that the hurst shifter changes nothing with the clutch.

Well that makes 3 of us with 2012 2SS 45ths!!! haha

And I agree kiteman, my clutch has been smooth as well. Quite a step up from the other manual car in my family, which is a 1987 Jeep Wrangler!

Funny, our 1SS was new and when the wife came home with it for me to test drive I was amazed at how the clutch had no resistance.

Nice car! This may be a little late but I think it depends on when your car was built. I have a 2010, 60,000 series serial number and I have installed a Hurst shifter and have the stock clutch. My clutch spring has always been much stiffer, even after 20K miles. I've driven Camaros produced later and the clutch is much easier on the leg. I'm betting your 2012 has a much easier clutch than the used car you test drove.
