UK Prices for 2016 Camaro published

Prices for official GM imports of the new Camaro in the UK have now been published:

https://www.chevrolet.co.uk/eap/Chev...o_20160603.pdf

As in the US, the V8 car is more expensive than the Mustang GT. It is also only available in the UK in left hand drive form and from one official GM dealer.

Also no V6 officially available in the UK - so it's either the 2.0 tiddler or the giant 6.2. I'll take the latter!

Unfortunately for the UK they tax their cars based on engine displacement. I can only imagine what taxes and annual tag renewal fees are for 376 cubic inches of good old fashioned Detroit muscle lol!

It's based on CO2 emissions. Currently around £1,000 road tax for the first year and £500 for each subsequent year for the V8 Camaro. Same for the Mustang GT, but although the road tax is high, the relatively low list price of these cars offsets this to a certain extent. The 2.0T and the Ecoboost have lower CO2 emissions and are therefore charged less in road tax.

Starting prices aren't too bad, but 20% VAT just kills it

The main restriction on sales of the Camaro in the UK will be the left hand drive rather than the price and tax - however there will be a handful of UK enthusiasts who will go for the Camaro rather than the right hand drive Mustang. If GM built a rhd version, the car would sell in much larger numbers.

Anyone else notice the posted stats?

SS Coupe
-453HP
-180 MPH top speed
-31.0 MPG (M6) & 36.7 MPG (A8)

The lower HP is odd, but the tremendous rise in MPG can be attributed to the much higher quality of fuel used over there! Still interesting. First time I have noticed a top speed number posted by GM on the SS

An Imperial Gallon is larger than a US Gallon, that's the reason for the MPG increase...literally larger amounts for the same unit of measure.

1 UK Gallon=1.21 US Gallons.

The lower HP figure is normal due to more stringent emissions for Europe..I think the Mustang is rated at 422 HP there vs 435 here.

I think the 453 figure is the German 'PS' figure for horsepower rather than 'BHP', so a slight variation. The MPG figures you quote are for 'extra-urban' travel. The combined urban/extra-urban figures quoted are: 22.1/25.4 for Manual and Automatic respectively, presumably using the imperial gallon rather than the US gallon. One imperial gallon is equivalent to approximately 1.2 U.S. gallons. Confusing!

Different methods of measurement but the Mustang engine is the same strength in European left-hand drive markets and the US. The UK/Aus right hand drive cars lose 6 hp and are rated at 415hp, something to do with the rhd conversion I believe.
