Update: long story short with today's overcast conditions in the am, I noticed that my polarized Oakleys are giving the HUD a dimmed effect (i see this same effect on my dslr) stupid me, lol. I nominate myself for the dumbass of the year award. Case closed.

I experienced a dimming/turning off HUD display during a drive one day last summer.
I pulled the fuse that takes care of the HUD and put it back in and never had it re-occur again. Who knows that the hell caused it...

lol, i've got polarized glasses that make the tinted windows look real trippy.
