1st track day down and tires are needed

So I did my first track day with my 15 camaro with stock Goodyear f1's. Boy are they terrible. Best 60 ft I could get was a 2.54 13.41 at 113. Did 4 runs and the best launch was at 2200 rpms. Not favorable with the large cam I have. Thinking of going with a 305 nitto drag radial. Temp outside was only 55 degrees. So conditions weren't the greatest. Also violent wheel hop even with trailing arms and bushings.

the hop is from the tyres over spinnin...I still get that with street tyres occasionally durin high rpm shifts..

if ur plans are weekend warrior then 18" corvette rims with slicks(yes slicks r fer sticks) is the BEST option...now I started with Nt05R's cause I found them barely used and saved a phuk load of $$$(me likes savin $$)....

the other trick is gettin the psi low...I mean REALLY low...lol... 13psi and about 5500rpm....

borrowed my buddies Hoosiers to test...way to tall of a tyre for my combo..324/45...like 30" high! also found out the hard way that the cars squatting was hittin the tyres....lulz...

Yeah I am looking at once a month or so going to the track. Haven't found any decent deals on any of the Corvette wheels lately. Maybe cuz it's the start of the season. It was a learning experience. I tried roll racing and got completely sideways in the middle of 3rd gear and let me tell u that will throw the fear of God in you trying to drive out of that. They didn't dry out the waterbox like they were supposed to.

any serious 1/4 on street tyres IMHO waste of time...like you found out...we all go thru it lol...

check your craigs listings...that's how I found my tyres...I see drag combos fer sale all the time...now if I could only find sum front skinnies...

which cam setup did you end up with? and what are your shift points? peace

Bmr stg4. Limiter is at 6500. Which is the pits cuz my best run I thought I had enough room to stay in 3rd and I hit the limiter about 150 ft before the finish so that hurt my time a little.

IMHO no reason ur limiter shouldn't be set to 7k...that way you can experiment with shift points from 65k to 68k(or higher)....1LE trans ratios are diff than SS so sum things will be a bit different...

do u have a shift light? this little item is a must have...our tach's get wacky when draggin so havin a verifiable shift rpm is just one more of the data points...

the first '60 is where ALL the majic happens...the rest should be just a hang on for the ride! lol...l8tr

Rdp tuned it so I need to have him adjust it. Agreed about the first 60 ft. At least I now have a starting point to improve upon. Thank for the suggestions and recommendations. Gonna look into a shift light.

I'm super happy with him. Not one complaint. he even had me call him on a Saturday and sat down and spent time to get the tune right. I recommend him to everyone.
