Can I replace just the brake pads?

Have my car at the local Chevy dealer and he looked at my brakes and said the pads are really low. He told my wife with the Brembo brakes that the rotors have to be replaced as well. I was hoping to get them turned and just replace the pads.

As long as the rotors are within spec no need...if you have ANY mechanical ability at all I would suggest changing them yourself, it's stupid simple.

They quoted my wife some crazy price to replace the brakes and the rotors. I don't want the stock pads anymore though. I'm tired of all the dust and I don't think they're all that great anyway. Was going to try a different brand. I will do them my self as well. I was thinking of these.

I would keep the factory rotors, get them turned if needed. Pads are really easy to replace, just drive out 2 pins, no need to remove the calibers

As long as the existing pads haven't been worn down so much that the rivets are digging into the rotors, then you don't need to replace the rotors.
Pads are an easy change. If you have a level driveway and a jack & stands you're most of the way there.

As long as the rotors are not warped or too thin after turning them you can get by . But after turning the rotors they will be thinner and will not dissipate heat as well and will not last too long in aggressive driving B4 they overheat and warp .Now if you drive nice and easy they will last a bit ,but did you buy a 1LE to drive nice and easy ? Bottom line is , if you want the car to break like it was when new replace the rotors and pads and check rear rotors and pads and see if they are up to snuff . It is all about what your expectations are and what you are willing to pay .

The OEM pads are actually quite good from what I've heard. I did a track day this past weekend with them and they did great.

You can go with a carbon ceramic pad if you want less dust. They don't always offer the same stopping power though. If your car is a daily driver and not a track car, that's probably a good pad for you.

The 1LE is just perfect the way it is, leave well enough alone.

I'd personally wouldnt ever turn the rotors on this car. Just me though.

When I changed my pads, the rotors have a throwaway thickness. Mine were really close to that, so I changed all of them.

It cost me about 1000 dollars to do it myself. I replaced the TTY bolts as well.

Dang, for $1000 you are close to the price of doing a CTS-V or Corvette brake swap. :P

I agree with using OEM pads, they are actually very good
