Blend door broke but which one?

Hey everyone,

2014 Camaro SS 1le owner. I have the dreadful blend door issue (they're saying a rod broke). Apparently there's 3 doors and I don't know which door is broken. I have the diagnostic sheet in front of me but don't see a code (does the number 566985 mean anything?). I can't get ahold of the shop who did the diagnostic for me, but they told me that they don't feel comfortable making the repair.

Anyone have any advice? I'm heartbroken because I've had this car since 2014 and it's become too much of a financial burden due to **** like this. I'm getting ready to sell but need to repair the climate control first.

Thanks.

Check out page 4 of this forum for Blend Door Hack. 8 pages of info on this subject. I'd link you up but I'm not so tech savvy.

take 5 min and watch this you won't be going this deep doing the hack but it will show you what you are replacing and how much work the hack saves. i actually did it like it shows in the video because i hdd to replace the heater core i replaced the blend door while i was in there just because, there was nothing wrong with mine.

Sheesh what a discouraging amount of work for a plastic door. I know about the dremmel hack by the gas pedal, but a lot of people / shops are reluctant to do it, because "they're not sure which door is broken".

I thought this was gonna be a point and shoot fix. It's turning out to be a maze in the dark.

Cooool - 15 minutes with the Dremel making that fine cut in the plastic and pull the blend door out. Thanks for this post and thanks to the person that made the video, he even marked the cut line with a sharpie.
- I'm saving this one just in case!

Thanks for the vid. I've seen several of them which is why I assumed this fix was going to be easier than it is. Really i'm ripping my hair out because no one has a freaking clue and i'm getting different answers from different people. I keep hearing "Dash / windshield needs to come out". AND I SHOWED MY DIAGNOSTIC / REPAIR GUYS THE VIDEO TOO.

Why would everyone keep saying there's 3 blend doors? Even J&R Perf, a local GM perf shop, told me it could be easy or hard depending on which door it is.

I haven't contacted a dealer yet for fear of being robbed, but I'll give freeway chevrolet a call. Thanks!

Just called 2 dealerships..

Freeway Chevrolet I had to leave a voicemail

Van Chevrolet - my local one - said there are indeed 3 blend doors, and whichever one is broken will determine the cost and extent of the fix.

They fixed your blend door for under $100??? I highly doubt that. Maybe you're thinking of another issue.

This is insanity. If this friggin blend door is half the problem it appears to be here on the forum, why is there no recall? Did someone say upwards of $1800 at a dealer?
