What are some good cheap wheels for some drag radials
I'm thinking about gettting some drag radials to use when I take the car to the drag strip. What are some good reasonably priced wheels that I can use to put them on? I heard that Corvette Z06 wheels will fit.
What is the smallest size wheel that will clear the Brembo brakes on the SS? I thought I saw where someone said some 17" would fit but that seems small for that size of brake. I'm thinking about getting some Nitto 555R tires. Anyone used these or have any other recommendations?

I ran some pretty decent (and consistent) times last week with 18" C5 Z06 rims and BFG drag radials:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-t...i-m-a-fan.html I had to secure both of the e-brake cables away from the rims but other than that they worked well. |

Here at BMR we use the 18" C5 Z06 rims also with a Mickey Thompson drag radial (305/45/18) and we generally cut low to mid 1.5's 60fts. They clear the stock Brenbo brakes with a small spacer and they are pretty easy to come by.

Where can I get some for $80 or so? That's cheap enough for me to do. Aren't a set of MT's about $160 a piece?

That's all I can find so far. Looks like about $300 ea....OUCH...not cheap for someone that only goes to the strip a 3-4 times a year. Can't find the 305x45x18 ones. EDIT: Finally found them. They are ET Street Radial II. Still about $300 ea.

They may have been knock offs of the vette wheels, but they looked great and just barely missed the Brembos w/ a small spacer. I plan on getting a set in chrome and will ask the question of where and get back to you guys. |

I got a set of the wheels below for $285 each and mounted a set of MT 305/45/18s. Make sure you get the C6 ZO6 wheels with the 40MM offset, the others won't fit. I have not been to the track with them yet, my butt 60' times seem alot better. With the street tires I could not launch at more than 2,000 RPMs on the street and I would still make smoke if I went WOT in 1st. I tried a launch today at 3,500 RPMs on the street after warming them up and they held really well. My Gforce axles have been delivered and I am going to try a launch at around 4,500 RPM at the drag strip. Will know for sure on the 7th. I did not zip tie them back, I just used a couple of 1/2" hose clamps. I just pushed the line back through the little bushing an inch or so and then added the hose clamp behind it. This seems a lot stronger than a zip tie, doesn't bend the cable and you can't even see it.
