Angry Harbinger of Sonic DEATH!

Wow; the veritable good-guy, quiet, law-abiding citizen has angered a neighbor.

Got a nastygram in an envelope on the window of my car this AM. Nutshell? "Your yellow car is too loud when you leave at 4:30 am and that is a violation of the Santa Clara County code."

These are uncharted waters for yours truly! I'm the guy who gets up early, exercises, mows and edges his lawn on weekends, is a proactive neighbor/hubby/dad/officer, doesn't break the law...and now this?

I guess these stock Camaros really are harbingers of sonic death!

Granted, I concede we reside within a mobile home community and close proximity can be a bear, but sheesh... I suppose I'll have to put my car in neutral and push it unpowered into the street for about 600 yards before I hop in and start it.

And it is stock? I am not seeing Santa Clara County being able to do much about that.

Take a picture of a 50cal and place it on your windshield along with a note that says:

"If you think my car is loud, then you should hear the sound of the 50cal that is pointed at you right now so back away from my car"

LOL! Gosh, that's good right there.

But seriously. If these folks mistake my gentlemanly disposition, let them file a formal complaint.

After which point, it's game on, Donkey Kong.

I would certainly make a visit to that neighbor (providing they were man enough to identify themselves) and explain a couple of things, one of which is the fact that you have a door that they can knock on and discuss it as opposed to touching your car.

I'd be down at the muffler shop doing some mods if I were you. Maybe a nice muffler delete will solve the problem.

This is probably the location of their keyboard muscles:

http://www.sccgov.org/SCC/docs%2FSCC...0Ordinance.pdf

I have to believe that *STOCK* vehicles surely have been evaluated for sound prior to sale.

For new cars, manufacturers certainly do so for emissions in CA and, should one wish to go against the law (e.g., opt out of front plates), one has to sign a waiver.

These similar oversight activities certainly suggest to me that my 2SS LS3 stock Camaro would be legit to start and drive in Santa Clara county....

If your car is stock then you can tell your neighbor to shove it.

The first problem is that your in Santa Clara county.

The second problem is this person is probably more worried about the gas guzzling V8 that you are driving and not about the noise at all.

The third problem is your neighbor vandalized your property by attaching something to your car without your consent. See what Santa Clara county has to say about that. That case against your neighbor makes about much sense as his does.

Definitely itching to move someplace besides a manufactured home community.... Housing market is probably ready for that too.

In my response, I was fairly tactful except for one point, which I concede was a bit snarky:

"#3. My family and I have made careful considerations, short of putting my car in neutral and pushing it unpowered into the street. I start my vehicle and immediately exit my driveway in less than 60 seconds, executing an immediate 180-degree turn onto 5th Street in the hopes of angling my exhaust away from your domicile. I challenge you to find other neighbors who make their departure from their homes in such a fast, miserable, "hope I don't get in trouble" manner."

You should tell your neighbor to never touch your car again and mind their own business , I'm saying I'd have headers full exhaust and a cam installed and just start it up and let her idle. Lol
