For those of you that didn't know.. the car was HIGHLY modified. Laying down over 1,000 RWHP and over 950 TQ Nitrous tank in the trunk, along with a 3 gallon tank of Methanol.

It simply wasn't worth an untrained person putting their life on the line for the Camaro. I've never been involved in a fire like that before. I didn't know if the fire could backburn up the fuel lines and hit the meth in the trunk, etc, etc.. much better safe that sorry.

The insurance co. basically freaked out. They went to the storage yard, wrapped the whole thing in plastic to "preserve evidence" and are hauling it up to an indoor facility where they have an expert there that will try to determine the cause.

I think the expected me to fight it. I was fine.. I have nothing to hide, and I'd like to know what caused it as well.

Also.. there were a few comments about the battery. I'm pretty sure that wasn't the issue, as the battery is in the trunk.

My untrained best guess is either a fuel fitting/line burst.. or the Procharger belt broke and snapped a fuel line. But, somehow fuel got loose under the hood. That much is obvious.

Quick vid of the dyno
Pretty much all fire losses get routed through the SIU/Special Investigation Unit in the claims department. Standard procedure for most claims agencies, and I wouldn't be surprised if they want to do stuff like pull your credit history, ask for other personal financial information from you, or on the car. If there's nothing to find, there's nothing to find, but the bummer is that settling a fire loss can take longer than a regular ole fender bender. They have to go through their excruciatingly detailed/ and slow/ processes.

Anyway, good luck on it. Let us know how it all works out.

It was a nice car and now you can build another. Anyway, the battery being in the trunk definitely rules it out. The only thing left(generally speaking) is what you've said must've caused it. Maybe you can replace it w/ a 15 or hold out for a 16, which would probably be notably better overall.

So... I finally got settled with the insurance.

And purchased the car back as a salvage title :(

But, she will be re-built!

I'll keep the forum posted on the progress.. hopefully I'll have her back in shape and better than ever within 4-5 months. Might shoot for some additional mods "while the hood is up" so to speak.

Damn that's horrible. Sorry man :(

If that happened to my car I wouldn't be able to afford another one unfortunately. I'm scraping by as it is haha. But its worth it to drive it 6 months out of the year. So fun.

They did.. but just the value of the car, not the goodies ($70+k) but we'll make it work.

I watched a kids Mustang go up in flames in a grocery store parking lot once. I pulled up just as the smoke started to roll out from under the hood. He popped the hood, and tried to raise it, and as soon as the air hit it, it erupted into a huge ball of flames. His arms were burnt in the resulting flare up. Luckily though, he wasn't seriously hurt.

sucks about the insurance only paying for the car.

was curious if you plan to insure the goodies in the future? if so, how do you do it? might help others with mods.

good luck man... keep us updated

Did their investigators determine a cause?

Glad to hear you've resolved things.

Your insurance will cover this. But unfortunately not to the tune of what its worth. All important items, like kids and yourself OK, only thing that matters
