If money was no object, I'd do a new LT5 swap on a 5th gen. The extra HP would be enough to offset any weight disadvantage the 5th gen has over the 6th gen.

You can't fix ugly, but you can fix slow if you throw enough money at it.

More than a few since 5th Gen outsold 6th Gen

Money no object, I'd rather have a LS9

but LSA with a pulley/tune fits the bill much cheaper with the same results

I'm sticking with my paid for gen 5, which I purchased new 68 months ago, and have not had one problem with, other than routine maint, tires, and a battery.
and that the LS is bulletproof and the LT1's are having oil consumption and bottom end problems when you toss any boost at them

I was a GEN5 owner, loved the car but couldn't resist the new GEN 6..

Lack of interest really don't hold much water when you figure the Camaro was out of production for 7 years before the GEN5 came out. There was a back log of people just waiting on the GEN5 Camaro before they ever saw it, I owned a few Corvettes waiting on the next Camaro. If the Camaro had never dropped out of productions I don't think you would have seen the sales numbers the GEN5 produced. JMHO

No, he probably couldn't stand the new "shudder-o-matic" A8 transmission.

I would have to get a 5th V8 before trying a 6th. Only way to be sure of which is better!

I see your point but the part we will never know is had the 6th gen been the one released after a 7 year hiatus would it have sold as well as the 5th? I for one don't think so but who knows? It happened in the midst of the retro rage too which makes a big difference I think.

Had the 6th blown my socks off upon release no doubt I would be driving one now but it just didn't........... I wanted it to though

Last August it was my plan to go Corvette from my 2014 1LE but after driving a few i wouldn't do it , the Gen 5 1LE really raised the bar for me . When i drove the Gen 1LE i knew really fast it was the one, it was what i expected from the Corvettes and more . You are right that the interest from 5th gen owners for the 6th is not there but Corvette owners and porsche owners are buying 6th gen Camaros now , 1le and Zl1s anyway.

I bought my '15 2SS/RS A6 convertible, because I saw the '16 & didn't care for it... I'd seriously consider replacing it with a '19 2SS M6 coupe if the prices weren't nonsensical.

If the 6th gen was released back in 2009, I don't think it would have sold no where near as well as the 5th gen ultimately did. You can't make the performance argument because the updated 4th gen LS1 in '98 obliterated nearly everything in it's path. However, the slow sales death spiral continued until GM finally axed the platform after '02.

I think the 5th gen was the perfect storm if you will. A beautifully styled retro design based off a immensely popular (then and now) hugely collectible 1st gen based design. Even considering the 7 model year long hiatus, the 6th gen would've never been able to pull off the sales records that the 5th gen achieved. Sure, it might've sold well the first year or two due to pent up market demand, but just like the 4th gen it would've dropped off a cliff in sales.

As time goes on, we will see how well the 5th gen holds up as a post modern retro design while the 6th gen merely becomes old and outdated.

.

I have never had a issue with my 8 speed but I know there are issues out there..

I wouldn't say to much if I was a GEN5 guy about the 8 speed auto.. The GEN5 6 speed auto couldn't find the next gear if it had a road map.. That was the biggest issue I had with my GEN5

I do know that a tune does help a lot with the 6 speed autos.

The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro has a new exterior design, but there are 6 other key changes for the new model year.
