If you don't mind all the false alerts (they all do them), then the V1 and Escort are tied. Add GPS to "train" the unit to the false detect locations (and hence a quiet ride to and from work every day) and the Passport 9500xi wins.

K40 is the only company that guarantee you will not get a ticket with their units. If you do they pay it.

OP I like the V1. It definitely works. ALL radar detectors are great reminders to slow down. If you riding on the road solo they dont do much good because your the only thing on the road. If your in traffic they give you a chance to slow down. V1 shows direction and distance. It is also upgradable for a small fee when new technologies come out. It should be the last detector you purchase. :-)

Thanks.
Is $1800 for a K40 DLH install a deal?

Here are the main differences... pick your poison... 1) V1 has direction arrows.. (Escort does not) to show direction of the threat 2) Escort has GPS (V1 does not) to store false alarms so you don't have to listen to it go off all the time. There are other benifits to GPS, but if you are deciding between the two there are your two MAIN decision makers... |

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the 9500ci? I know it's not "cheap" like dr1ven is looking for but I'm REALLY considering getting one since I got a speeding ticket within a month of buying this car. Any thoughts?

I've been using an escort 8500 for the last eight years and have only gotten 3 speeding tickets.
The only tickets I've ever gotten were from my own stupidity - by not paying attention/having the music up too loud to hear the warnings/spacing out, or when the officer lurks around a curve and pops you as you come around. In the latter situation the best radar detector won't save you in time. I almost got a ticket last year over the causeway in New Orleans when an officer was pretending to dig around in his trunk on the side of the road, and when he heard I was close he jumped up, whipped out his radar gun, and popped me as I passed. I wasnt speeding but I was lmao for a good mile. In my honest opinion, its not the radar detector that saves your wallet its your own senses. The detector only enhances your ability to dodge a ticket and if used improperly won't do anything. Some people have a misconception that these devices are 'cop detectors' and think the thing is broken if it doesnt make noise when they see a cop - no, he's just not looking for speeders right now. These things also go off at the wrong times and you have to program them according to what type of tracking the police use in your city. Here, in El Paso, the police RARELY use K band and that signal usually comes off a school bus. X band is usually a security alarm or door sensor in front of a store - never an officer. Laser is never used here. But Ka band is used by almost every officer tagging speeders here. May be different where you live. Over the years I've learned where the popular speed traps are in town and I just go the speedlimit regardless of what the detector does in those areas (especially where that curve is). I also watch the cars ahead of me, if they break its proably with good reason. Never drive in the left hand lane on the freeway while speeding if you dont have to. Check your mirrors before you gun it onto the freeway from the on ramp. Some of these things have become habbit for me since I had to send in my detector for repairs a few years ago (dropped it) and was detectorless for about a week. Text wall hit you. Thanks (;
