While we're dreaming... 10.xx ZL1 ?
.
I'm guessing our Beasty will come in around 11.85-11.9 in the quarter mile. Since it's a slow news month for ZL1, I figured I'd ask you guys what you think would be required to break into the ridiculous 10.xx world. With ZL1 aerodynamics, the stickiest rubber you can find, and an immaculate track on a good day, how much HP would a guy need to break out of the 11s heading south? How would you get it? I won't be trying to do this myself, it's just a hypothetical exercise. GO! .

Dang, getting into the 10's with the ZL1 would be tough! I mean a Twin Turbo Lamborghini has a hard time getting into the 9's.

Well a 4000lb car with 575HP= 11.72 in the 1/4 mile. And a 3800lb car with 575HP = 11.52 in the 1/4 mile. So if the car with driver is 4000lbs. You would need 700HP at the flywheel or 600HP @ the rear wheels. To run 10.90s

For comparison's sake, consider these "real world" recent results from this year's One Lap @ Gainsville. ALL these cars run non-R-rated tires...no slicks.
http://onelapofamerica.com/event/Res...=10&eventId=30 #1 and #3 Nissan GTRs were heavily modified, and AWD. Rene von Richthofen (yes, he's a direct descendant of the Red Baron!) and his #2 result, 10.82, was "off-the-showroom-floor", Michelin Pilot SS-tired, with Porsche's "new" launch control...which has shaved at least 8/10s from previous "stock" ('09-earlier) Turbo S (AWD) times. If GM "allows" aggressive electronics to be installed in the ZL1, mid- 11s are NOT out of the question...similar to or better than the #4 time of the Z06, 11.77. Mildly tweaked, with DRs, ZL1s should run 10s for fun! BTW, the #9 time of 12.31 for a ZR1 was definitely not representative of that breed... |

Well I dont want to sound like a broken record because I posted this in another thread, but I have actually given a lot of consideration to what it would take to have a 10 sec car.
Here is how I plan to do it: Going with the 700+ HP package (Lingenfelter or ADM Performance) which includes upgraded heads, GT9 cam, pulley upgrade, 8 rib belt, CAI, upgraded harmonic balancer, 63 lbs/hr fuel injectors, and 160F thermostat. I also intend to have the bottom end forged. To get the additional umph needed I intend to upgrade the stock heat exchanger and replace the stock 1.9L supercharger with the R2300 Eaton 2.3L supercharger from the ZR1 Corvette. http://www.fastlaneturbo.com/ctsvsup...erupgrade.aspx Looking for 650-700 RWHP with the capability of high 10's through the quarter, although I probably wont take it to the track much if any. When I push the gas pedal I want this bad boy to scream! |
