Who's running over 600rwhp on the stock motor without issue?

Hello everyone. I have a 2008 corvette coupe (LS3 motor, 6 speed manual trans) that ECS supercharged last August with a TVS2300 supercharger making 8.7lbs of boost, callaway honker cold air intake, and American racing headers with high flow cats. The car put down 578rwhp and 526rwtq and has been a total blast to drive!

However, just like everyone else, I have got the need for more power! ECS is recommending that I go with their small blower cam plus methanol injection to make another 80-100 rwhp safely, so I should be around the 650rwhp mark...

I would like to hear everyone's opinion with regards to the safety of running this much power on the stock ls3 motor? Are many people on this forum running at this power level without issue? I would love to hear from you guys that are making big power safely on the stock motor.... or is this just too much power to be had safely?

Thanks guys,
Raj

You won't have issues with ECS. I know of many set ups making north of 600 and still together. Flukes aside, ECS know what they are doing.

Better than 50% of my supercharger Customers are at or above 650 RWHP on stock long blocks.

Put your Trust in ECS they got it handled.

Octane, octane, octane, and tune... Those are the 4 things (Yes I know actually 2), that will keep your motor together. We have countless (Honestly, I couldn't tell you how many because there are hundreds upon hundreds) of LS3 motors that are 600rwhp +. We have hundreds in the 700+ range and 800+ rwhp range on stock bottom end.

Its all in the tune and the octane.

I was at 637whp for about 6000 miles then pulley'd down added meth, boost was about 12psi. Drove it a hard an add'l 2000 miles (just under 6 gallons of meth in those miles) trying to break my Gforce drive train components.

Did not break them but broke a piece off my top ringland on the #5 cylinder. See the link to my thread about it. I drove the crap out of the car not caring if it grenaded since my new LSX motor was already being built. I knew the stock bottom end would not last, it was kind of an experiment. I blended 104 sunoco 3 gallons per tank (about 96 octane in the tank) plus ALKY meth kit.

I saw your post over on corvetteforum on this same subject so i know you are familiar with Taylor Simms and Dallas Performance. He did my tune so you know it was an outstanding tune, he is one of the best!

I will sent off the dinky 65# injectors to have them tested. I suspect the #5 is probably bad. at any rate, i was on the limit with these injectors at my power level.

The car still runs, i just dont drive it. Gonna sleeve this LS3 block and forge it to have a spare 427

My HKE built LSX 427 is about 3 weeks from completion then off to Taylor at Dallas Performance for install, custom fuel system return style with triple DW300 pumps feeding ID1000 injectors and Taylor's tune.

Have a back up plan and be prepared for the worst just in case. Do not skimp on the fuel system if you up your boost. Mine lasted quite a while considering the abuse i put it thru and if you look at the chunk missing from #5 its not really that bad. All the other cylinders look good.

Timely post: MTI racing is finishing an install for me right now. TVS 2300 Magnacharger, Stage 3 cam, ARH long tubes and 3" exhaust, CAI cold air and dyno tune. Here's hoping a stock bottom end is OK!!

I believe the guys at MTI would echo the sentiments on this thread about the stock LS3 being a reliable platform for these additions.

I' m really looking forward to seeing what the dyno shows as my hp & tq. figures.

Bill

One thing i have kind of noticed on here. All or quite a few of the big builds in progress or complete are the result of issues with too much pwr on the stocker.

Believe me, i am not one to say dont up the boost/fun factor. Just have a back up plan for a "bigger and badder" FI build if Murphy rears his ugly cranium (not alowed to say "head"). If its not a daily driver, go for it. Just make sure your fuel system is at least 25% over built, thats cheap insurance. YMMV
