Post 2016 Chevrolet Camaro pricing starts at $28,245 in Canada

Oshawa, Ontario (Tuesday, September 22, 2015) – Less weight and more power is the combination for performance success, and engineers of the 2016 Camaro have the numbers to prove it. With weight savings of up to 177 kilograms (390 lbs.), the all-new Camaro delivers performance numbers that reset the benchmark for the segment.

The 2016 Camaro offers higher levels of performance, technology and refinement, starting at a suggested retail price in Canada of $28,245, plus a destination freight charge of $1,650 for the Camaro 1LT, while the most powerful Camaro SS ever starts at $42,150 for the 1SS.

“The all-new 2016 Camaro will reset the bar in the segment with even greater levels of performance, new technologies not found on any other car in the segment, and more choices that enable customers to take personalization farther than ever before.” said Shane Peever, Chevrolet brand manager for Canada. “The 1LT trim level has long been one of the most popular for Camaro and we expect it will be even more popular as the 2016 Camaro 1LT is priced $2,575 less than the 2015 model and offers significantly more standard features and technologies.”

New standard features that were either unavailable or optional on the 2015 model include:
  • Chevrolet MyLink with Apple CarPlay capability
  • OnStar 4G LTE connectivity with Wi-Fi hotspot
  • Driver Mode Selector with Snow/Ice, Tour and Sport modes on all models and Track mode on SS
  • Remote vehicle starter system (with an automatic transmission)
  • Driver information center with color display
  • Keyless access with push-button start
  • Rear vision camera
  • Automatic climate control
  • Leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel
  • LED daytime running lamps
  • Capless fuel filler
  • Variable-ratio electric power steering
  • 8-way power driver, 6-way power passenger seats
  • Electronic park brake
  • Driver and front passenger knee air bags
Additionally, the popular RS package returns for LT models. It features 20-inch aluminum wheels, High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps with LED signature lamps, LED taillamps, RS-specific grille inserts and a rear spoiler.

The Camaro 1SS builds on the equipment included on the 1LT with the RS package, adding unique front and rear fascias, specific grilles, a vented hood, and specific rear spoiler. Additional performance features included on the 1SS include:
  • Cooling systems for the differential, transmission and engine oil
  • Brembo brakes with four-piston front and rear calipers
  • Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 run-flat tires.
  • Active Rev Matching (manual transmission models only)
  • Limited slip differential (manual transmission models only)
  • Configurable Driver Information Center
Uplevel 2SS models include leather heated and ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, interior spectrum lighting, heated steering wheel, head-up display, Bose premium audio, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert with Lane Change Alert – included on the 2LT with the Convenience and Lighting Package – and more.

Canadian Pricing

The 2016 Camaro is offered in coupe and convertible body styles, and a simplified model lineup with just two models (LT and SS) and four trim levels (1LT, 2LT, 1SS, and 2SS). The Canadian starting price for each model is as follows:

Anyone ever gone to Canada to buy a car? Is a 1ss really 6k cheaper? I'd imagine there's got to be other costs otherwise I feel like everyone would buy their car across the border.

That and the import fees you'd be paying. Plus that whole being blacklisted from buying another GM car because you exported one once... haha!

sales tax is higher in Canada. Don't forget about the cost to switch from km to miles

I was not saying that as Americans we can buy the 1ss camaro cheaper in canada. Just saying canadians will pay less than us. This is marginal and probably set up that way to help the currency conversion since they are technically spending more in their currency anyways. In the USA 1AJ37 Camaro 1SS $36,300.00 + DFC $995.00 MSRP. This is due to the fact it only costs us .75 cents to buy a canadian dollar right now. 1SS 42,100 Canadian dollars equals $31,575 US dollar to own. That is a $4,805 price difference. Might save people if they could do it that way. Although will kill your resale value here in the US if you trade it in.

I don't know about importing FROM Canada, but importing from the US TO Canada does not incur a lot of costs at all. I know, I bought my 5th Gen that way.

Keep in mind that the price difference is only due to the incredibly low loonie right now. It's circumstancial. When I bought my 2010, I saved $7000 because the CA$ and $US were basically at par!
Up until the dollar collapse a few months ago, we were paying the equivalent of 15%-25% more than US residents... comes and goes, but typically we pay a bit more up North :o)
