And this is standard across all trims. I was impressed that my 2016 base 1LT could both roll down the windows and start remotely!

2 to 3 blocks away , mo not good, a hacker sitting in a car or wherever can hack the signal with his laptop and malware program, unlock the door start the car and his thief partner can drive away. Happens all the time (that's how they do it these days. They did a news segment a few months ago , and said if you disrupt the fob signal, the hacker can't read or communicate with the fob. Try this it works for me . Take a piece of aluminum foil I folded to double thickness and wrap the fob in the foil . No signal to the car. Now is a pain in the butt , yes / no , you make the call , save your car from not being there when you return to it.

Usually I hit the lock twice to hear the beep, then hold the remote start button and it starts right up. One time I could not get it to start was when CEL is on.

If the side lights are flashing but you don’t get a start press the start then lock-then hold start.
I was having this issue for a while. On a hunch I was curious if I may have inadvertently hit start at some point throwing off the expected sequence. Now when it does the light flicker and no start I do the above and it fires right up. My car is about 60 yards from where I exit my job and it easily starts. Just have to hit an extra button sometimes. |

You're also only allowed two concecutive remote start sequences. You need to start with the dash start button after the 2nd key fob remote attempt before you can remote start again. I don't recall if this same limitation applies to the app or how many remote-start extensions you get. Maybe this info is in the owner's manual, I haven't checked.
On my GM vehicles I get a pretty long range for lock/unlock/panic, but need to be appreciably closer for remote start to complete. Again, I'm not sure if this is by design or some other factor. Do owners with remote start problems have any mods, tunes or connections to the OBD port? There may be some pre-start "checks" that are borderline out-of-range due to modifications or tunes... Thanks everyone for the replies. I have tried every method listed and still call it "hit or miss".
when I bought the mrs. a new Equinox in December, the sales lady tried to convince me it goes "Lock, Lock, hold Start" (contrary to whats in the owners manual). I tried her way with the Camaro and so far.....Lock Lock Start seems the most reliable. who knows................but I do appreciate your help and a few of you mentioned LLS. |

Judging from your experience, post-refresh (2019+) programming may have a similar race condition, one that actually prevents starting the car remotely.

I've been using Lock>Lock>Start on all my Chevys since my 2012 Sonic with no issues.
