<~~~~~~~~ bought an Elite Eng. catch can just to play it safe, I must say it does collect a considerable amount of oil every time I drain it, I look at it as an insurance policy, it's not going to do any harm but It may possibly prevent any future issues by trapping the oil before entering the intake, keeping the engine in tip-top shape .....

I have to admit I turned a blind eye to the catch can thinking it was another "must have" item that no one really needed. However seeing is believing and the photos do not lie. That is a lot of gunk for sure. I now have a different view about the catch cans. Today I have done a lot of reading up. This is something I need to buy and see it for myself on my own Camaro.
I am at 10,000 miles so I need to get the system cleaned before I buy and install the catch can but that's exactly why I am going to do.

OK lol I have a question...I have heard about sea foam and talking it apart and all of that but how would you clean it exactly? I have 65k miles and never done anything other than maintenance. I am getting a catch can when I get my super charger installed. Should I have my guy clean it first and then install?

Question, I'm running 90k miles on mine.
Should I even bother now and installing one or is it to late to start?

For a Port injection engine, there will be no intake valve coking, the benefits are reduced knock retard, etc.
For the LLT and LFX V6, then at 90k your valves will need a manual intake valve cleaning, and then get a proper can on it ASAP. Search here for a few threads on the cleaning process, and do NOT do a seafoam or similar as damage will occur with a GDI engine due to the deposits being a baked on crystalline make up that is as abrasive as sand when it sheds. |
