It's a permit in NJ not a license. Besides the person with you has to be over 21 not 18 and has had an NJ license for at least 3 years. Plus there are restrictions on the number of people who can be in the car with you, a red decal that is supposed to be on the license plates, and you can't drive from 11 PM to I think 5 AM.

Mine was a used '86 iroc with 180,000 kms on it. The summer I got it was 96 and I was 17. Man o man was that the best summer of my life!!! Paid $7000. My payments were a whopping $273./mth. I was able to work at kinkos to pay for it. Then I had to get a pt job at a gas station for obvious reasons. I had it all that summer, free gas, sweet ride, girls o plenty. Ahhhhh, simple times..... **sigh**

Whenever my grandpa used to say "I remember you used to buy x for $x" I always used to reply "yeah, but you were probably getting paid $x per week." I was a little snarky as a child, but I understood the concept of inflation.

Cars back then didn't last half as long as the ones built today and were typically ready for the crusher at 100,000 miles. My first cars were all used mid to late 70s GM and replacing complete exhaust systems, starters, alternators, water pumps, etc was common on them at 50,000 miles. Severe rust after 5 years too.
Bottom line. Cars today are more than twice better

My parents were definitely very skeptical about it, but knew the type of person I was and let me buy it and learn lessons on my own. I received a full ride scholarship to 3 different state universities, and I actually receive a nice chunk every semester. Beautiful Michaela is sitting in my garage right now. I regret buying it in the sense that I could have had all that cash, but I am grateful I took on the purchase. It forced me to stick to my job, which helped teach me way more than many people my age had learned. It has helped me build my resume and land other good jobs. I'm currently on my senior year of college with a Camaro that i received zero financial aid on and I'm proud of myself. But I definitely don't think any teenager should do it. |

1.the genesis is my cousin's old car he has an ecoboost premium now so we keep the genesis in our garage until I get my licence which I should be 18 for it(thats the way in my country)and i take it for a spin every single night when the traffic is light so technically its my car already. 2.the cayenne is my dad's car and im driving most of the times 3.as you mentioned I said I will be tracking the car in other threads as soon as I get my camaro in 2017_18 so I don't know why its a mystery for you 4.we have a different culture here unlike americans, you americans work for college and cars but for us,the parents are doing all the expenses until finish college. Reply to your Word of advice:its kinda disrespectful when you judge someone over short thinking.the reason I had doubts about our friends acclaim is that we don't get license until 18 so it looked kind of impossible to buy a car or getting a decent job in age of 16 for me.but thanks for the advice anyway Last edited by amerhash28; 08-22-2015 at 07:22 PM. |

I remember going to the dirt track on weekends and seeing 2nd gen Camaros running along with Chevelles that were 5 to 10 years old. That was in 1975 and I still see the same cars there now! I know its got to do with fuel injection, but could you imagine seeing that scenario today. It would put more butts in the stands as it did back then. I think about what my parking lot looked like on my graduation day in 1981, it was littered with nice Chevelles 68-72, Camaro 67-77, Trans Ams same as Camaro years and Mopars of various sorts in the same years. The opec thing sent these car prices into bargain land of course, so it was easier to have one.

My wife order a new 1979 Camaro 305 2bl no gauges or rear spoiler. When it arrived it had a 350 4bl, gauges & a rear spoiler. She was 18 years old & saved $2,000 for a down payment so didn't need a co-signer.
That was a great car & had almost 200k miles on it when we sold it. Wish we could of kept it.
