Thanks frank. Yeah I got tools enough to get it done. It's a "Straight swap" I hear. Good idea, may as well throw in a couple seals while it's easy.

I don't. I noticed a very slight noise from a hot water recirculation pump at a previous job. It had been running direct drive (very little side loading compared to with a belt and pully) at 1750 RPM for about 2 years 24/7 with 0 downtime. The unit was absolutely dry. Not one drop of oil came out. Bearings are somewhat oily from the factory and that combined with a lazy service life allowed the unit to continue operating. I added the proper spec oil, flushed it twice, saw minimal debris and it ran well until I quit 6 months later.

I've also heard of limited slip clutches getting cooked/glazed from improper oil, but not seized together. I wonder if they used fluid without the friction modifier in an attempt to let the clutches bite harder?

Brand new 79 Z28 Camaro, dealer didn't check if there was oil in the rear. Customer made it about 50 miles, while on the interstate @ 60mph the rear locked up. Bearings actually melted onto the pinion, I had to use a sledge hammer to get the pinion out.
