Did you test them out at the track? How do they compare to Trofeo Rs (in case you were able to test them at the track, too)?

I finally ordered my OEM Z/28 wheels for track duty. I was going to try these Hoosier tires, too, but then ran into an eBay post for Trofeo Rs taken off of a Z/28 @ 38 miles. At $1670 shipped, it's worth trying them first before trying any other tire.

If anyone is interested in selling an 80%+ set of their OE Trofeo R's please message me. Thanks

4th set of R7's

Im on my 4th set of R7's.
I run 315/30's on front and 325/30's on the rear.
They heat cycle out after 2 track days and then your driving on ice skates.
But they feel great when fresh.
Have to run higher then normal pressures to make em work.
Up to 45psi hot.

My Trofeo Rs did not fare much better to be honest:

From my build thread:

  • I had three track days with the Trofeo Rs, and they are now done. It was the front left tire that quit before the others. More importantly, it was the sidewalls that quit, and I actually still have thread left.
  • I think there are a few reasons for this: The tire needs lower pressure to work. The recommended 28 PSI is just too high for it to have optimal traction. 26 PSI that I've tried is better, but it actually makes the soft sidewall issue worse. It is also still too high for this tire, but I did not go below that.
  • Judging from uneven wear, for those who track their cars with Trofeo Rs, I highly recommend that you hit -3 camber (especially at the front). I am not sure if using at 28 PSI vs. 26 PSI would make any difference.

It actually corded as well.

Never been spun. And you can't lock these brakes. Not a flat spot. Just a hard 2 days at Laguna.

X25, I think tire pressure is not exactly the issue. What amount of camber are you using? I am at -2.9 front and -1.8 rear, ran hot pressures of 34f/32R and have had no such delamination issues. I have over 700 track miles (about 5 days) Looking at my wear patterns, I am going to increase the front to 3.2 and rear to -1.9 or maybe -2, and change tire pressures to about 35F/30R hot. Fronts are almost shot, rears have another day or 2 on them, this is on the stock Trofeos. Brake pads by the way are still doing pretty well with 7mm front and 6mm rear.

For reference, I am running in instructor group with PCA.

Any other feedback on Hoosiers from others?

Yeah, as I've also mentioned, this tire requires quite a bit of camber to work. My fronts are currently maxed at -2 or so, and I can't get more without using a camber plate. The higher pressure would help support the tire in lack of more camber. I really don't want to run camber plates, but I might end up having to..

I've tested the R7s 315/30/19 size on both front and back mounted on OEM wheels (I have a separate set of OEMs/tires for the street. They work extremely well. I started at -3.0 camber on front but backed it off to -2.5 to even the wear a bit (this could vary by track). The downside is that if you drive hard, you can only get about 10 heat cycles out of them. I tried recommended cold pressure at 36 psi, but in my view they lose too much when above 42 psi hot, so I now run them at 29 psi cold/38 hot and they work great.

The pressure recommended by Hoosier is actually 40 PSI cold due to low load rating these tires have (total vehicle weight / 100). I'm sure, though, it would be even worse at 40 PSI cold. This (the lowest safe cold pressure being much higher than tire's sweet spot) was my main reason to eventually not try these tires. We have the same issue with Trofeo Rs as well (Pirelli recommends 29 PSI HOT, but that would mean ~22 PSI cold, way below GM's minimum recommendation of 26 PSI).
