No. I have LEDs (Halos).

I don't like the dotted pinpoint style. I thought they look like xmas lights or those cheezy disco plastic light tubes from the 80's. It reminds me of what you might see on a car in an 80's sci-fi show (Buck Rogers *cough* *cough*)

Even Jeremy Clarkson panned the look when Audi first put them out. He called them "fairy lights" which is what they call christmas lights over in the UK. I think it's WRETCHED looking. Even Audi made a commercial drawing a parallel to christmas lights. Yuck.

My point was it looks like Audi and others put LEDs on their cars and went out of their way to make it obvious they had LEDs in spite of the fact they look like crap they way they styled it. It looks like they were TRYING TOO HARD to show they had LEDs.

By the way, the 2000 Cadillac full-size (not sure the designator) had LED taillights and I believe it was the first car ever to have them. They put a diffuser lens over them and so they look a lot less gaudy.

I believe it is because your backup lamp must actually project light similar to a headlamp where as the brake lights only have to light up.
I was asking why they put the regular bulb in the TURN SIGNALs of many cars with LED taillights. It seems to me like the LED would be better there.

Maybe manufacturer's haven't figured out yet how to make reliable LED turn signals? I know people who would replace the regular halogen bulb with one of those star-pattern LED replacement bulbs would have issues with the bulb blinking at ridiculous rates of speed and would need an in-line resistor wired in.

You can say that again. I purchased LED lights to replace my metal halide lights over my aquarium, and that cost me $1400 for them.

I am however saving about $20 per month on electricity, my aquarium is a nice cool temperature all the corals and clams love it but things do look a bit different.

I do love the longevity of LED's though. Though I think I read that HID's are supposed to last the lifetime of the vehicle as well.

The "old school" way of making the turn signals work used a flasher module that plugged into the fuse panel. The way they did flasher modules for decades was an electromechanical device that would open and close a contact based on the heat generated by the current draw of the flasher bulbs. LED replacement bulbs don't draw much current and therefore don't work with the old school flasher modules because they rely on the current dissipated in the bulbs to create the proper amount of heat to make the flasher operate correctly.

The "New School" way (I assume everyone does this now) you would make an LED flash would be to use a solid state device like a transistor to turn on and off the power to the turn signal. This is more efficient because:

1) It does not waste energy in the forum of heat.
2) It's cheaper to manufacture.
3) It's lighter and smaller
4) It has no moving parts or contacts to wear and replace.

If a new car still uses a flasher module then it is really a poor and wasteful design.

And I thought they looked tacky 5 years ago.

Christmas lights is all I think of every time I see them.
Really can't wait till this fad dies just like those tacky clear tail lights with chrome housings everyone was slapping on there cars a while ago.

IMO the light really needs to be evenly spread like the abl on the inside of the camaro. I think Audi is also moving away from the dotted light look and going for a more evenly lit design.
I'm glad Chevy didn't kill the look of this car with a bunch of LEDs everywhere.
