Where I live, Troopers and county sheriffs are on the onramps spot checking inspections/registrations on cars. I try to avoid those too.

Someone once mentioned to me that the front plate violation is a secondary offense...meaning that in order to be pulled over, you would already have to be committing a primary offense (like speeding). Can anyone debunk this?
Well my dad has only had cops say something and write a ticket after being pulled over for other things. They have yet to give any tickets for that alone..

NO FRONT PLATE

Correct the total cost of a NO FRONT PLATE is $195.00 WOW! A nice state revenue maker.

I have my front plate affixed with a stick on bumper mount. It is the law in NYS…. Like other things that we must comply with. To bring attention to yourself and allow law enforcement to pull you over is just asking for trouble, plus the expense that is involved…..no thank you.

The front plate look is starting to come back I notice at OBI a lot of old diehards are now sporting front plates to avoid the drama of getting stopped. Some of the real car buffs are making very attractive mounts to be in compliance.

Having the plate in your front windshield is also NG as it must be affixed to your car.

As far as a primary offense….. I don’t think you are correct. No front plate is considered an equipment violation.

You're right about the revenue thing. But it's not so much the "ticket" that's a lot of money. Try the surcharge.

I also agree about it being a no-no putting the front plate behind the windshield. Seems to me that you'd be more likely to be pulled over with the thing behind the windshield rather than to have none at all.

I live in NJ where front plates are required too. Cops around my area are really picky cause of all the commuters up to NYC, so I caved and mounted the front bracket. At first I was really against it, but after the install, the GM front bracket is actually really well designed and looks like it belongs there. It hurt to do, but in the end was worth it to give the cops one less thing to ticket me for on the highway.

Except they pay taxes too. But I agree, they are supposed to be public servants. Go to court and stand before a judge in a case where it's your word against the cop's. Gee, I wonder who the judge will side with most of the time.

The windshield is an integral part of the passenger frontal airbag system. A license plate or another object on the passenger side dash, such as a nav system, may hinder the performance of the system causing injury or death that could have been avoided. So if the airbag doesn't deploy properly, injuring or killing your passenger, look for the afore mentioned judge and cop to side with the airbag manufacturer

LEO's don't give me a second look and I don't need them to ruin my day. I run a front plate on all my cars.

I would think if you make a decision NOT to run one and you get a ticket, man up and pay and don't moan.

Wouldn't be the first time I've had a patient that was hit by an airbag created projectile...

I'm interested...is EZPass required to do this mod? (That thing on the plate is your EZPass, right?)
