1 3/4" vs. 1 7/8"?

Are 1 3/4" long tube headers enough for an N/A, lightly modded car? I wouldn't imagine there would be an appreciable difference unless boost was involved. Anybody had both for a comparison?

Interesting read, and pretty much what I thought. For the significant price difference between the two, think I will go with 1 3/4, especially if they make better mid-range power. Thanks for the link!

Ted did back to back to back runs using Dynatech headers in 1 3/4, 1 7/8, and 2in. The graph was almost identical until the peak, where each size bigger produced a few HP more. It wasn't massive but a few HP with each step up. The big thing it showed was no loss of hp or tq in the lower or midrange for any size.

Havent header shopped in a while but personally I would spend the extra cash on the bigger tubes, they will make a tad bit more power, and it will give more room to support bigger mods in the future.

Where are you seeing a big price difference? Most are within $60 or so of each other.

I think he is looking at the cheapest 1 3/4 header compared to the cheapest 1 7/8 header, brand name irrelivent.

I'm the one who bought Ted's 1-3/4" ARH headers from this test. I've always known that the smaller headers would make more mid-range power and it does!

This. I am actually looking at the Pacesetter 1 3/4" LT's. My car is never going to be FI or really heavily modded (pretty much just bolt on's) and will never go down a track, so a set of full length headers for roughly $250 (on Amazon, all day long) seemed too good to be true. I have been blowing up the forums trying to find a ligit reason to spend more, and so far haven't come up with anything. Apparently they fit perfectly and put up comparable numbers, they just don't stay pretty for long. I can deal with that...

If it were just the fact that they are won't stay pretty as long, there wouldn't be an issue. The fact that they are mild steel, should be what you're looking at. A good set of headers that will last longer than your car will be made of 304SS. You also need to look at what you get in that $250 price tag. The one I see on amazon for $250 is the headers ONLY. You'll have to buy or have a muffler shop manufacture mid pipes and you'll have to either buy O2 extentions or extend your O2 wires yourself. There's a reason they are that cheap.
