Vinyl Hood Wraps?

Hey all,

I have a 2013 black LS and I like the look of a matte black hood. I've seen people do it with wraps, paint, plasti dip, etc.

Was wondering what the best method is. Cost is always a factor (broke college student) but I also don't want it to look cheap.

Any suggestions? Likes? Dislikes?

I appreciate it!

You could wrap it yourself for around $30. Hoods are easy.

Vinyl for hood, definitely. I did satin vinyl instead of matte because I wanted a little shine. Plasti dip is OK but only if you use the cans and spray gun. Using rattle cans to do your hood doesn't turn out that great. I know because I did it on my hood and there were streaks up and down. Plasti dip is great for wheels and other smaller surface areas.

I wrapped the hood of my 2lt. I went a little overboard and left on my stripes and my company stickers under the wrap so you can see them. Its sort of like a "ghosted" look. I like it.

I used "5' x 6' 3M 1080 MATTE BLACK Auto Vinyl Car Wrapping Film Sticker Sheet Roll". I paid $60 for it.

Wow those look good, guys! I appreciate the responses. Whats the upkeep like on vinyl wraps? Is there specific cleaning procedures Id have to take on it? Also, how durable is the wrap? Thanks!

Mine is matte black vinyl wrapped with the stripes cut in. I had them do it at the dealership before I agree to buy the car.

Upkeep is easy, just wash it. I've tried some different protectants, but they all streak and it looks like crap, so I just wash and leave alone.

I see you're in Las Vegas. For daily desert dust build up, I use a microfiber cloth and Mother's Quick Detailer spray. For washing, just use a good car soap and a soft sponge or microfiber scrubber.

Durability is good. I can attest that they do not withstand cat claws Our cat got locked in the garage overnight once and decided to jump onto my hood. Must have slipped some and used his claws to stabilize, leaving 3 claw marks down the middle. Looks like the Monster energy drink logo.

Thanks! The dealership is Matthews Hargreaves Chevy in Royal Oak. They didn't do it there, they sent it to their usual people who do their vinyl work. The vinyl hood was my last negotiation piece. Said I wouldn't take delivery unless they paid to have the vinyl done. Worked out great. Everything else (wheels, badges, etc) will get plastidipped in the spring. Id like to get blackouts for the taillights but cant find then anywhere.

Bigwormgraphix is your friend for the black out tail light.

What he said, here's a pic of their tinted headlights I used from them. I got the hashmarks as well, but that's obviously about to get replaced
...
And im headed out to Royal Oak ASAP to get that done. Sorry to steal your idea, but everyone I checked doesn't want to do the job because they're too scared they'll cut into the paint.
