My brother had a truck with an alarm sensitive enough
that if you just wapped the fender with your knuckles it would chirp. But it used to be fun to make it chirp with the exhaust of my '85 monte SS. !

I think the sound resonates a little more in the lower RPM range and thus creates more vibration to allow a car alarm to go off. Every time I roll by and I'm in low RPM the alarms are going off and when I get into higher RPM, not so much.. I might be wrong, but that's what I have experienced from driving through the parking areas.
