This is the first manual 5th gen I have driven but I have a 98 LS1 T56 that I installed a G5X4 cam and a Spec stage 3 clutch in and I can honestly say that my 98 is much easier to drive clutch-wise. My 98 is a garage queen but I have gone through some 4-5 month spurts that it was my daily with the above mods and I have driven it in rain, snow, and ice with no problems. The weekend we got it I stalled it twice and my wife stalled it a few times before getting used to it (she daily drove the 95 5 speed GT for quite a while). Hopefully one of our dealerships will get a manual SS that I can test drive and compare to ours.

These cars apparently have a habit of getting air in the lines. I've had almost every part of my hydraulic system replaced and for now the problem is gone, but if you're having the same problems I had it can make you feel like an idiot driving a manual. My clutch pedal was constantly releasing at a different point in the pedal travel, so you never could get truly used to it. My friend drives a 98 GT 5spd every day and I would let him drive my car and he'd kill it every time.

My advice is to bleed the clutch master cylinder and the master cylinder, and make sure you've got a good seal on the master cylinder cap, I had a problem with that and fluid kept getting out that way (if fluid can get out then air can get in). I'm going to have to bleed my brakes soon, my pedal is feeling a little soft at the moment.

I'll have to try that out, much easier than pulling the trans and seeing what clutch is in there, lol. I checked all of the fluids when we got it but didn't really pay much attention to the hydraulic system. That may be worth a second look.

greenmachinedriver and I have both noticed the difference after a bleed. The problem with mine was that almost immediately there was air in there again so the pedal was immediately screwed up after bleeding.

That's definitely what I would try first, or take it to the dealer and have them do it. Sounds like it's still under warranty for a little bit longer, so if you're lazy like me that's an option.

Had the car on jackstands earlier and noticed a few things:
Braided stainless clutch lines

~10-15 ft of wire extended onto the windshield washer pump

Supercharger with meth kit and aftermarket clutch with ss braided hoses? Damn I wish I knew what all was done to this car, lol.

Curiosity was getting to me again. I purchased the carfax on the car and it was clean and clear and showed one previous owner and that it was registered in Montgomery. It showed that it went to Wiesner in Conroe and was sold then put in an auction a few weeks later and was listed as a dealer vehicle before I purchased it. Clean history is good and now I have a better idea of the area it was in but still know nothing about the previous owner's modifications.

On a side note, I am debating on going FI again if our turbocharged Mustang sells this weekend. If I do decide to take the plunge I am leaning toward a Whipple.

Whipple seems to be popular on the 5th gens.

Sounds a lot like repo that the owner pulled the mods off of before it went back trying to salvage some of his investment. Clutch would stay. Too hard to pull and swap without a shop and cost to much to pay to have it done.

The lines look strikingly similar to the ones in the RAM hydraulic release bearing kit... guess that is another sign that it has a pretty stiff clutch.

Also, I pulled the factory catback today to install a Solo Mach X kit and noticed the spring flap valves that are apparently only on the L99 verts. My car is definately not a L99 vert. I'm wondering what else is/was on this car!

Super old post but just an update, a few years ago I installed a Street Slayer clutch and pulled a Ram Powergrip clutch and their slave cylinder. More recently (2 weeks ago) I had a fuel leak at the pump (hose connector on the hat was cracked and spraying fuel). Ordered a new ZL1 pump to upgrade from the stocker. When I pulled the pump yesterday I realized it was not a stocker but a Livernois dual pump setup. Still have no info on the previous owner or setup but looks like he was pushing some power!
