2018 First Recall??

I have a 2018 2SS Auto. I went in for the regular 2nd service and found out there is a brand new recall for 2018 models which the dealer got notified just a few days back. First recall?? or anyone else with 2018 had this or any other ones already? I have attached an image of the work order, they did Not have the parts since it is a brand new recall. Dealer has ordered it, waiting for the call once they receive it.

You sure it's not a TSB rather than a recall. I checked the national recall data base and found nothing.

Recalls are usually for safety issues. Since this concerns protection for ABS wiring it might be a recall.

Yes, I did Not complain about this issue to the dealer. I thought TSB was when they perform the work for whoever faces a particular problem for instance this transmission shudder problem etc. which is being discussed in this forum where they will perform the TSB only if you have that problem, does Not apply to all vehicles in a VIN range. So, this was just initiated by the dealer as soon as they pulled up my vehicle info and the service guy clearly mentioned it was a Recall.

It's a Campaign. That's mfr speak for recall. Recall Campaign. Only affects certain units.

ABS wires are being damaged due to inadequate abrasion protection.

-----------------------------

#17468: Service Update – Insufficient Tape/Abrasion Protection on ABS Wiring – (Apr 11, 2018)

Reference Number: N172115540 Release Date: April 2018

Involved vehicles are marked “open” on the Investigate Vehicle History screen in GM Global Warranty Management system.
This site should always be checked to confirm vehicle involvement prior to beginning any required inspections and/or repairs.

Condition
Certain 2018 model year Chevrolet Camaro vehicles may have been built with insufficient tape/abrasion protection on the Antilock Brake System (ABS) wiring near the body stud. This condition could rub through the ABS wires.

Correction
Install sleeve to wiring harness and secure with stud mounted clip.

1 Conduit ASM, Engine Wiring Harness (120mm length) 84511961
1 Clip – Wiring Harness 84112527

Warranty Labor Time 0.3 = 18 minutes total

Locate the wiring harness leading to the EBCM underneath the Windshield Washer Solvent Container Filler Tube.

Install the conduit and the clip to the harness as shown.

Here’s my quick and temporary fix to prevent/avoid interim damage until I get the premanent fix. My wiring had no visible chaffing or damage and was not in resting contact with the stud.

The Fix: I used a rubber cap from my “box of rubber caps”. You can buy a bag of rubber caps at any auto parts store for a few bucks. A 1” piece of 5/16 vacuum line will also work. First, I checked the rubber cap fit on a similar stud that holds down the radiator reservoir. Next, I put the cap on the problem stud with some long needle nose pliers and tightened it about 1/4 turn to snug it up. It took longer to get a decent photo than it did to put the cap on.

The Reason: I don’t see a need to go to the dealer for an 18 minute fix that will cost me hours of traval and wait time. I will let the dealer do the permanent fix whenever it goes in for something else.

As with any home-grown solution, use it at you own risk; I’m not responsible for any damage that may occur based on decisions you make about your car.

Dealer told me about this when I scheduled the reflash for the GM Performance CAI I installed. They indicated on my invoice the work was done. I inspected the work after I got home and found they only added the wire loom to the ABS cable. No plastic nut with the clip to hold the wiring away from the threaded stud.

Frustrating this simple procedure can't even be performed correctly. I will purchase the clip and plastic nut and finish it myself.

It says it expires with warranty, I thought recalls never expire. Only TSBs expire with warranty no?

IT IS NOT A RECALL. Sorry, for the caps but tired of this happening.

If it does not say recall, it is not a recall.

Service Bulletin = Recommend service or action to be performed or a simple notification of a change or issue with a vehicle to include things as simple as an updated sticker for the vehicle weight because of an error from the factory.

TSB = Technical Service Bulletin = A recommended course of action for a repair for a common issue found on a vehicle. This is not a recall! this is simply a " hey we see this alot and we've found a way to fix it"

RECALL = Voluntary or enforced by the federal government. Recalls never expire although they can run out of parts and no longer be performed. ( EX. 1981 Chevy door hinge recall. They ran out of hinges 10 years ago. No more recall. They are required to keep parts for a certain amount of years ) If you have a recall on your vehicle you will receive notification by mail. GM typically sends out post cards and possibly a letter. Recalls are only for safety concerns. Examples: Gas fumes in cabin, Brake line failure, steering wheel falls off, ignition shuts off, car can come out of park, etc...

I hope this clears things up a bit

Correct. Chevy is ordering the fix before it becomes a recall. Happens all the time; without websites like this one, you'd never know you might have the problem. It would just get fixed automatically the next time you took your car to the dealer for service.

Love it. GM documentation calls this a "Service Update". My dealer called it a safety recall when they denied providing me the additional part ($3) so I can finish the job correctly.
