Do you have to replace valve stem if they are removed for powdercoating?

Guy that is powdercoating my wheels told me I need to get another set of valve stems bc you cannot reuse them if they are taking off. Can someone please shed some light on my situation!

if the stems are not removable in the sense of tpms sensors then yes you will have to purchase new ones. They shouldn't run you anymore then $5 bucks each. If they are tpms then dude is trying to play you for stupid............... no offense of course just giving you the heads up

it's not the tpms, it's just the rubber stems and called my dealership and they are trying to charge me 12 bucks a stem. WTF?

dude at the dealer everything is expensive. Go to a local rim shop, they should have some black cheap ones for like 5 bucks.

You can't just go buy some cheap black ones. The TPMS sensor is screwed to the bottom of that black valve you currently see and it is not a regular valve stem. Yes any reputable tire shop should have them in stock as they should be changed just like a regular valve each time you change tires. You should expect anywhere from 8-12 bucks each. Your getting them powder coated whats another 10 bucks?

Are they 20" oem wheels? I thought they all had TPMS in them. If they do the wheel shop should be able to just re-use them after the rims are powdercoated

Not correct. The vavle stem which is rubber needs to be removed to powder coat the wheels. You CAN NOT reuse a rubber valve stem. You will need to buy new rubber valve stems that can accept the TPMS sensor. The rubber valve stems that are TPMS type valves are different from regular valve stems.

If you want to see what I am talking about go here.

That is what our Camaro has in it. GM has been using this for a couple years now.

Hope this helps.
