I'm a big amusement park nut. With that said I find a nice method in a pinch is a good ziploc freezer bag with the double zipper I have never had anything ruined using this not wallet, phone, camera, or anything else

I agree. I run marathons and don't want to just the large electronic laden key for long distance training (moisture and other issues). Just a laser cut key that will open the door so I can leave the ignition key hidden inside would be good for me too.

I think you can use a Toyota / Lexus TOY40 and TOY48 key blank and get it cut at your local locksmith provided he has the equipment to side cut keys. I found them on the web for 3.00. It does have a small groove in the center but i would get cut out anyway when your locksmith copys your camaro key. It will only open the door but it would come in handy if you don't pay for onstar or want to have your phone with you to call onstar or to use the onstar app.
