For the M6, cruising at 70 in 6th gear with the stock 3.27s you will be running right at 2000rpm. With 3.73s you will be just below 2300rpm. The swap will realize an equivalent torque gain of approximately 15% or 40.95 rear wheel lb.-ft. of torque. With 4.10s you would be a little over 2500rpm and will realize an equivalent torque gain of approximately 27% or 75.33 rear wheel lb.-ft. of torque. While the improvement would be significant the cruising rpm is probably too much for most V6 owners. Last edited by Apex Motorsports; 09-14-2010 at 07:10 PM. |

This may have been answered already, but which is better for daily drivability?

Careful... I was reading on the SS forums... the 4.10 gears blows up their car LOL. Someone said shifting from gear 1-2 and his car blew up lol. I dont know... seems kinda scary. I'll definately wait till someone installs and runs it a while before I pull the trigger on this one. =p

I beg your pardon, not as much punishment????? just kidding. FWIW, I think the 3.73 is very drivable, especially since we have the 6th gear. I also have 3.73 in my LS1 which is a 4spd. auto and does rev. a little high on the freeway but with the 6th gear, I don't think it will be a problem. It may sound like a lot but I think you get your bang for the buck. Its not noticable visually or audibally (like exhaust or CAI), but damn it feels good. Regarding the install kit, you could save a couple hundo but I would say you will want to change your bearings. Blessedchef changed his auto V6 gears to 3.55 and his mechanic said his bearings were shot and my mechanic was shocked to see how bad mine were with only 1,700 miles (punsihing miles of course). As Chase indicated, many of the SS' have seen the same situation. So if you drive it hard, you're probably better off with the install kit. I'm sure Chase can "hook" you up! |

Somebody (Chase) should be looking into whether or not the Pumkins can be swapped for the Auto Tranny's. I'm sure you would be able to get some from SS's that are upgrading. I still don't understand Richmond's rationale of 3.55 for Auto's. Maybe someone (Chase) can check with Richmond and see how many 3.55's have actually sold. Oh someone (Chase), please help.
