XM - Odd billing?

So after the free trial of XM ran out, I got a phone call from them begging me to keep it. I agreed to 3 months for $8/month and they billed my credit card up front for the 3 months. That was October 8th. I've been wondering why I hadn't been billed, received any notification, or just had the radio turned off. I logged onto my account and to my surprise, it says I'm signed up for a 3yr XM Everything subscription, news to me. I double checked my credit card, definitely haven't been billed for it. So I'm thinking wooohooooo... free XM! That was aweful nice of them. I poked around in my account and stumbled on this...

Your balance as of January 21, 2010 is $465.05
Payment Method Invoice

So what's that mean in XM world? Am I going to get a bill in the mail for $465.05? Are they just going to charge my credit card? Am I just going to keep getting service for free forever? Am I gonna have a collections agency chasing me down?

I've always heard XM customer service is garbage and I suppose this is just another example. Anyone have any insight/experience with em on something like this?

Now that they have your card, I bet it will "automatically" get billed until you cancel the service. I would have requested a statement, as I have seen this type of deal where you will just keep getting charged their "rates".

I got a call from them wanting me to keep my service, so I negotiated with them and got a lifetime subscription. And because I have heard/read the horror stories about their billing practices, I paid with a prepaid credit card, so if they want to bill me later for something, they can't. Now, it could bite me later, and them turn off my radio but at least I won't get a "surprise" charge show up in my checking/credit card account.

I'm not surprised. I had a similiar experience and told them to shove it.

I just went with the lifetime for 399.00. i plan on keeping the car at least 10 years unless the Z-28 totally rocks. But then again for the price difference I could make my car like a Z-28 for less I would probably do that.

That's what they told me would happen when I agreed to the whole thing. They said I would get a notice from them in advance and it would be billed monthly at their normal rate. What's showing in their system now is certainly not a normal monthly bill heh.

I'm just going to keep an eye on my CC (like I normally do) and see if they bill me. When they do I'm gonna call and be like "uuhhh no" and tell them to refund it. Depending on the outcome, I'll refuse payment with my CC company. That's if they ever bill me and who knows what they'll bill me for if that time ever comes. The whole thing is just weird.

I battled XM for literally weeks with countless hours of phone calls. I love the sound but the Customer service is the worst. I have little faith in their abilities and do not trust their billing practices. If I were you I would not wait for anything. I would call them IMMEDIATELY and get it settled.

I signed up for $6/month for 3 months, recurring at regular price after the 3 months...

I was leaning towards not even activationg the XM when my baby finally arrives, after reading this thread I am leaning even further.

I enjoy XM, this is the 2nd car I've had it in but the CS sucks. A lot of hassle to keep your account straight and they say one thing and do another. Pay attention...

XM is notorious for their shady billing practices. Just google XM billing and read some of the horror stories. I would stay away. Just use any data-enabled phone and listen to Pandora or Last.fm instead, for free.
