2001 Camaro SS vs SLP SS

Hello,

I've been searching but couldnt find this information. How come some 4th gens said SLP and some didnt?
What's the difference?
I'm asking because I might be picking up an 01 SS, but it doesnt say SLP under the hood, so I wasnt sure what that means.
also, are all SS's titled as "Z28 SS"
This car has all the SS stuff, only 37k miles, very very clean and fully stock, but when i run the vin on Carfax it says Z28.
I'm getting it either way, it's in such great shape, but i'm just wondering.
pics when i get it this weekend.
also, the dash (above the stereo) only says CAMARO, not SS like some I've seen.

It does have SS badges on the side and back, does have the SS wheels for that year, the hood scoop, and the higher spoiler.

All 4th gen SS's started as Z-28's. When someone ordered an SS, GM would send a Z-28 to SLP to be modded into an SS.

Check the RPO sticker on the drivers door for the code "WU8". If it's got WU8, it's a true factory order SS.

The later SS Camaros were pretty watered down vesus the 1998-2000 but the best way to be 100% is the RPO code. And unless you have the Castrol package there is no highly visible SLP markings.

actually 01 and 02 cars came with some nice upgrades like LS6 intakes and a few other goodies and put out more horses then the 98-00 cars.

Actually the intake was negated by the truck cam that also came with the 01-02. Had they kept the LS1 specific cam for 01-02 it would've been worth mentioning the LS6 intake as if it was a bonus.

The earlier cars (98-00) had a lot more SLP involvement compared to the amount of GM installed items in 01-02. The 98-00 cars also had a SS specific suspension versus the 01-02 simply having bigger swaybars. It's also worth noting that I've had a 2000 SS and a 2002 SS.

You make it seem as though the LS6 intake was insignificant. Mod for mod, my 2001 Z28 ran better than the my 2000 SS -- even with 60k more miles.

I'm not going to sit and argue about decade old F-Bodies but the LS6 intake although a plus was no big power advantage over earlier LS1's. This has been proven time and time again and there is no point to act like it wasn't now. It's a given that all LS1's in some way shape or form were ~350bhp from the factory.

And with all the changes (especially the reasons for them) I won't take back calling the 01-02 SS's watered down.

The LS6 intake may not show a peak gain when stock for stock, but under the curve, one will see the advantage.

Fair enough on your reasoning regarding "watered down" -- I simply do not believe minor differences to be enough to consider them to have such a label, though.

And lastly, no matter how many Camaros someone has owned, it doesn't automatically make them experts just for the sake of having owned them. Yes, I'm even humble enough to hold myself to that same standard.

I don't consider changing out 75% of the suspension a minor difference.

And no one is claiming to be any kind of expert as facts are just that facts. There isn't much that can't be found out if someone is willing to put in the simple effort to look. They did the same thing with the IROC-Z between 85-90 as I consider the later ones just as watered down.
