Final Planned Exhaust Mods Question

So, I've been looking around for a while trying to find the right deals on exhausts/headers, and I think I have it narrowed down. What I want to do is a full Magnaflow cat-back system (16583) with the BBK LT headers. Therein lies my question, and bear with me as I'm new to the mod game.

Will the BBK LT headers connect right into the Magnaflow system or will I need to buy extra pieces? I believe that the cat-back system comes with high flow cats and so do the BBK headers. Do I use both? Do I only order the axle back system instead of the cat-back system?

I'm not concerned with the cost as much as I am the ease of install. I love the sound of the Magnaflow cat-back system and think it would do well with the headers and my K&N intake.

Let me know what you guys think.

Should bolt right up. And no, the Magnaflow system does NOT come with the Cats, hence the name Cat-Back, It's After the Cats back to the rear....

Got it. I misunderstood what cat-back meant then. Thanks for the help.

Jbird - are you buying the high flow cats from BBK along with the headers?

The LT header set up I found from Phastek comes with the high flow cats. Just waiting on a PM from the Phastek guy so I can get the C5 price. The more money I can save on the ceramic coated headers, the better.

Not that technically advanced, but I will post pics of the install for sure. After it all, I'm hoping my V6 will sound nasty!

Ok then the catback exhaust system is designed to fit the stock cats. The hi-flow cats are going to change the length and maybe even the fitting to the cat back system. If you are gettin the hi flow cats along with the headers, I would do more research in how the catback exhaust will fit the new cats.

I'm not saying any of the above is incorrect (you have more experience with it first hand than I do) but isn't the BBK's (and ARH for that matter) designed to bolt right up to the stock cat-back without additional modifications needed? Or if anything, I'd hope they would at least come with the necessary adapters.

If thats true, and considering the magnaflow cat-back is made to bolt right up the stock cats, wouldn't then the BBKs bolt right up the magnaflows? Sure, the length may be a tad different, but I don't see why the fittings/bolt up should not work.

Well isn't the MF a 2.5 inch system? If BBK is made to bolt up to 2.25 stock, then that might cause a problem, but nothing a competent shop couldn't make work. The mid pipes of the MF may have to be cut if the BBKs position the cat further back.

Phastek knows their stuff. Ask them how it's gonna fit.

well, as i've stated in another thread, the high flow cats that came with the BBK long tubes fit my 2.5" corsa. nothing was too long, too short, too big, or too small. it all matched up perfectly...

I see what you are saying...

I am worried by the fact that the high flow cats look completely different than the stock dual cats. Not sure if the flanges will match up on the hi flow cats to the cat back exhaust

Also the stock cats are setup much closer to the engine I think and when I had the ARHs put in, the cats were further away from the engine. Not sure if the BBK does the same.

My thinking is if the new cats are moved further away from the engine bay, then wouldn't the catback exhaust pipes have extra length, that may need cutting/fabricating to the right lenght? It's speculation on my part, and I didn't have to go through that, because I did a completely different setup, but if I was Jbird I would verify all that before taking the car apart, so he knows the cost of install and the time it will take.

Didn't see this before I posted.

If that is the case, then I guess Jbird has no worries, I just didn't know. I had alot of fab work done, because not only did I use the ARH tubes & cats, with an axle back system and added 2.5 inch pipes to connect everything. So my experience is completely different
