Car trailers any ideas?
So we move alot.. And im thinking about purchasing a trailer for the car. I thinking about an 18 foot dovetail trailer with the rock shield on the front and tie downs in the floor. Any body have one and have opions on steel deck vs treated wood? Or another arrangement that may work better. Plz dont tell me enclosed just not possible for me at this time. Also what size axles do i go with i know that two 3500 lbs axles shud carry the car just fine and i think would be more forgiving ride for the car but shud i go with 5k axles instead? Just looking for other opinions and input.

I have owned several open & closed trailers. the best open trailer I had was all steel with an open center. It could double as a lift for access to areas under the car. The steel trailers will outlast the wooden ones, but will require periodic touch ups so as not to rust....

I'd add a winch to the tongue of the trailer. It will make it useful for towing inop vehicles too. Also, check door clearance of the trailer fenders. It's a pain if to can't open the doors to get in and out when loading and unloading the car. I, also prefer ones that have ramps that slide under the frame, over ones that fold up in the air.
A complete enclosed trailer would be the best. If it's big enough, you can use it to haul the car, as a toy hauler, and storage/moving trailer. |

save up some and make it aluminum, you'll never be sorry. It's more $$ up front but a better trailer in the long run. Besides, whatever you're pulling it with will thank you. I've owned enclosed (42' fifth wheel) and 2 open trailers, steel and alum. For an open trailer, you can't go wrong.

If you are going with a Open trailer, then steel is the way to go...Also, if they have the fenders that fold down for door clearance even better...3500 lb axels are fine.

Rust never sleeps......
With steel, the trailer is heavy to tow and rust will attack at ANY chance. Aluminum? Well, you know the rest......

I would love an alumn trailer just cause they look nice it will be towed with an f-450 so i care less about weight the truck wont even know it pullin any thing 488 gears in the rear no worries there. I do really like the open in the middle thing forbuse at events and home as good for under car access and what not. Deff will have a winch on it and either folding or removable fenders. Good what else? I was thinking about usimg the straps that basket the tires dor tie downs anyone use those on their car do they work well?

Why would you not consider a enclosed? You stated you move alot. A enclosed is great to move with. Load your snowmoblies in, car ect.

I have a Sloan Kwik Load. It's the best open trailer I've ever used. The bed of the trailer rolls back and allows very low cars to drive on the trailer without scraping. Very easy to load up my lowered Camaro or lowered Trans Am. It has the front fairing, removeable fenders, a winch, two built in tool boxes, and deck lights.
Here's a quick video I made a little while back showing how it works. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...6/f5a973be.mp4 And a couple of pics.
