C6Z compared to SS 1LE
I always told myself i would buy a C6Z. Ive owned a GTO, and LS3 C6, and then now the Camaro SS 1LE. Used 2008-2009 C6Z's were going for around the same price as a new 1LE. Yet i went with the 1LE. However, every time i see a C6Z on the road i almost cringe like maybe just maybe it would have been a better choice. Just so much value in that car. This car does however have much newer technology and much more practical for daily use, which is what i use it for. I also would think the 1LE might be able to take corners better than a Z, as the feeling of my C6 base coupe was nothing compared to this car in handling brakes etc.
Anyone's thoughts on the two in price, performance, looks, and etc?

I had a C6 Z06. Unfortunately, it was bought back on the lemon for the valve guide and exhaust valve issues (which GM NEVER copted up to)
Having said that, comparing the two, I would say the following... The C6 Z06 was a rocket and the LS7 was amazing in a straight line in that chassis, 1st gear was useless though. The LS7 would have been an amazing motor to have in the SS 1LE with its heavier weight and with the E-diff. The C6 Z06, like the SS 1LE has high handling limits, however when you get to 9/10th to 10/10ths, the SS 1LE is WAY more controlled, stable, and buttoned down. All Corvettes from C5 onwards have twitchy rear-ends due to the rear leaf spring design. The C6 Z06 also had poor rear shock damping, you needed to upgrade to the DSM Bilstein shocks to keep the rear under control. Looks wise, I think they both look amazing externally in their own ways, however unless you are going to get a C6 Z06 as a weekend car only, there is no way I would takes its interior over the 2SS 1LE Camaro as a daily driver.

The C6Z interiors were hard to get over (puke). Otherwise the Z06 is still a monster track car. I found a 2011 with 3LZ and Carbon package for $52000. Almost pulled the trigger but it was over 7 hours away from me at a Dealer Wholesaler.
The logistics were just too much to overcome. |

The 2SS 1LE is my first GM car since my C6 Z06 and it was not until I went into a dealer , sat in the car and touched and pressed every button and switch in the car that I was sold on the improvements GM has made to the interior. To this day, I can still feel the cringe every time I pushed a button on my C6 Z06, especially the steering wheel ones.

I looked at C6Z's and GS's, but once I drove a 1LE it was all over. Don't even miss my old LS3 C6 anymore. The 1LE is in another class altogether.

I rode in one of those Corvettes with my instructor. I thought the rear end was gonna fall out of the car. It made a clunking sound and you could feel it shift. Didnt seem safe but I didnt say a word.

SS 1LE interior reminded me of a E46 with updated features.
Nothing squeaks. Materials are nice to touch. Switchgear feels and sounds quality. The C5/C6 have horrible materials, terrible layout and EVERYTHING makes noise.

The interior on the Gen 6 SS 1LE is much nicer than the Gen 6 Corvettes in my opinion. The Z06 might win on the track, but not by a wide margin. Plus, they were known to have some reliability issues, especially with the cylinder heads on the LS7 and are now out of their factory warranty. I spent some time deciding between the SS 1LE and a used Z06 a do not regret my decision to go with the SS 1LE one bit.

C6 has fully independent suspension, using a transverse leaf spring front and back with normal shock absorbers.

Thanks. I never owned a C6 (or C6Z) but would love to own a C6Z some day.

I remember the interior of my 2008 C6....my SS 1LE is like sitting in a Bently compared to the Corvette.
This was the one thing that always got me...the Steering wheel in the C6 Corvettes was the SAME WHEEL they put in the Cobalt, Malabu, and even some Pontiac models. All they did was change out the Center emblem to the Corvette flag, lol. GM has come a long way with their cars, and I'm really happy with my SS 1LE. But god damn, that 'Vette hauled ass....
