6l80E plus ADM cooler fluid level?

Somewhat recently I dropped my trans and drained all fluid and swapped out my torque converter and installed a ADM trans cooler and a janettey dip stick.. Refilled with 10 quarts of dex VI and at 120° in neutral my janettey dipstick is still reading dry? Anyone have any idea how many quarts she should take? Messaged Janettey but havent received a response yet..Thanks in advance

Follow the normal operating procedures and then gauge where the fluid is at on your dipstick. Any other way is just a guess

Definitely, I'm just wondering how many quarts everyone else with a 6L80E and a ADM cooler typically took. I'm under the impression that 10 quarts is already quite a bit?

I'm not saying that this is your problem, but aren't you supposed to put it in park instead of neutral when checking the fluid level?

Fluid level should be just above the bottom of your valve body.

That's impossible to gauge unless someone took off their trans pan, calibrated their dipstick to "just above the bottom of the valvebody", reinstalled the pan, and then checked the level. Where did you get that info from, and what exactly does "just above the bottom of the valvebody" mean? That could be 0.100", 0.500", 1.000", etc.

I got it from RPM transmissions when I bought one of their 4L80e transmissions. This is how you calibrate your dipstick. If memory serves me, they said 1/8" above the bottom of the valve body. And yes, it has to done with the pan off. And as he had the pan off for the fluid and filter change, he could have done it.

Seems a complete flush takes 11 qts so I'm still pretty low, will be topping of asap..thanks for the input guys.
L99/V6 Auto: 6.7 qts (pan/filter removal), 11.0 qts (complete flush)...........Dextron VI

Interesting, thanks. Never heard that before. It's been a while since I had my pan off, but I kind of remember the valvebody hanging down below the pan rail quite a bit. It seems like this method would result in a pretty low fluid level, no? Unless the actual valvebody does not hang down below the pan rial, that is.

My aftermarket dipstick puts the level about even with the pan rail in the area of the dipstick, and at least one other aftermarket dipstick puts the level in the same spot.

edit: I just realized that the method you explained was for a 4L80e, which might be different than a 6L80e.

It’s been to long for me to remember exactly how Many quarts I put in to help you there. Looks like you already got your answer but I’ll try to look back thru purchase orders and see if I can find what I used.
