What Oil For Cammed Camaro

I know this has been asked a million times. Im looking to do my first oil change since owning this car. My 2012 Chevy Camaro 2SS/RS, with GPI SS1 Cam. I was wondering if the 5W30 that we normally use is ok or if I need to be using something different. Everything I read had a million different opinions. Thank you.

No reason to switch, stick with your 5w-30.

Everyone is going to recommend what they run, and I am no exception lol.

I had this engine rebuilt in 2019 and completed break in with Valvoline conventional VR1 10w-30. Since then I have been running Amsoil 10w-30 Z Rod. It has added zinc/phosphorus. I know its not needed for a hydraulic setup, but I figured why not?

It's just very freaking expensive. But I will never run anything else in this engine.

I run an aftermarket oil cooler that adds an extra quart.
9 quarts of AMSOIL ZROD 10W40 isn't cheap, plus I change it out half way through track season with only 1300-2000 miles on it.
Would rather make sure she runs happily for many more track days then do an "unscheduled" engine rebuild.
Each track season oil change I send a sample to Blackstone Labs for testing.
Well worth the piece of mind.

No kidding man. Up until recently I was an Amsoil Preferred member but I let it expire because they raised their prices (like everyone else). It was nice only paying $9 a quart for Z-Rod. Now I can get it at my local Napa for cheaper than ordering from my assigned Amsoil distributor. They raised the regular price to $15.19 or $11.19 per quart with member discount. Only benefit is that now getting 8+ quarts will guarantee free shipping since it's over $100 lol.

Regardless, I won't use anything else.

I was told by complete street performance who built my engine use Mobil 1 5w-30 since it’s street car and not tracked.

My tuner recommended Valvoline 10W-30 synthetic blend after my cam. I've been running it ever since with no issues.
