New Maggie Question

Got my new Magnuson SC installed 3 days ago on my 2013 L99 and am very impressed with the overall SC experience. Love the whoosh and whine and the POWER!. Stock it has the 3.8 pulley and I read some have put on 3.6, 3.4, 3.2 even a 3.0. Seems I can't keep my wheels from spinning with the 3.8, so how much more power are you guys seeing with those smaller pulleys? And is the stock fuel pump able to keep up?
I'm also noticing a lot more soot at the the exhaust tips, is this normal for a SC?

Thanks,
Jeff

I don't have a Maggie but if you start going up on boost your stock pump will start running low. Upgrade your fuel first. Wider tires and suspension mods will help with the spinning.

I run 3.2 on front with overdrive cog in the rear (15 lbs boost) not sure of hp cause belt slips pretty bad. Anything over 650rwhp and ur gonna have belt slip fyi. That is also on stock fuel pump with boost a pump. U will be fine with 3.2 pulley should put u around 12 psi and 580rwhp. But most likely will need a bap.

A 3.6 is about all you'll be able to run with the injectors that come with the blower. You might could run a 3.4 if you upgrade the pump system with either a zl1 pump and FPCM (what I run) or the stock/zl1 pump with a boost a pump if you get it tuned just right. Mine ran out of injector with the 3.4 pulley even with a pump upgrade. With the 3.6 you should see another 25 rwhp from where you are at. If you are running the Maggie tune, the soot is probably because it is on the rich side when in PE mode, which is about all the time with the Maggie tune.

OK, I'm kinda new at the whole forced induction thing so what is PE mode and is there a better tune then the Magnuson tune that might reduce the exhaust soot?

thanks,
Jeff

Yes, there are better tunes out there, many. The Maggie tune assumes no other mods on the car. If you have a Cold Air Intake or anything else you'll need a new tune. You should search out a local (reputable) dyno tuner in your area or research and consider remote email tunes.

Just noticed you have the A6 transmission, definetly get a dyno or remote tune. It's worth the money just to wake up the transmission. Pulley down one size, get a good tune and have some fun. Any more than one size and you'll need to address fuel supply.

What he said PE mode is power enrichment, where the computer adds fuel. Especially important with a blower. Magnuson adds extra fuel to be "safe". More than necessary if tuned with a wideband, so it runs rich, hence the soot. I've leaned mine quite a bit compared to what the magnuson tune runs, it feels way better.

Thanks for the replies. I do have a CAI intake and a ported throttle body so something other than the Magnuson tune might be in order. Can I use the tuner unit that came with the Maggie with an email tune and what are some reputable email or Phoenix area tuners?

Thanks,
Jeff

SCT sucks for tuning on this platform. Keep the tuner so you can check codes, but that is about all it's good for.

Look up J&R performance center. I believe they are in Chandler.

There are three platform options for tuning that I think lead the way for Camaros. All have their own merits.
  1. SCT
  2. HP Tuners
  3. EFI Live

There are members on this forum that remote tune with each. If you want to use your existing SCT handheld I'd suggest you contact forum member "JANNETTYRACING", Ted at Jannetty Racing Enterprises and talk to him.

Hello Jeff, use of the CAI with the Magnacharger tune is not recommended as the calbration is meant for the stock air box only.

I can provide you with a custom tune to make your magnacharger run perfect with the SCT tuner and your CAI kit.

We also stock many Magnacharger upgrade, and supporting mods to move you up in power Safely and Efficiently.

Happy to guide you in the right direction.

Ted.

Curious

Jeff,
If this needs to be a private message than I'll go that route. Was curious as to cost? I have an automatic and have been considering a supercharger.
