Alain, I have a similar sized compressor (a Craftsman from Sears which is I believe a bit larger at 25gal) and the earlier poster was correct - you may run into trouble getting optimal 'torque' from that gun. Remember, the listed ratings are optimal settings (likely at a corrected outside temperature) etc.
My experience has been that with a lower-end (or mechanic-grade) impact-guns (I have both types), you won't get blistering torque with that compressor. Further, I would note that you don't want blistering torque either. Put aside some money, and invest in a good quality Craftsman/Jet or other quality torque wrench. I am always amazed at how shop mechanics (even with the colored attachments) reef down the lug-nuts. All vehicles have an optimal torque (typically in ft-lbs) that you can use. If you have aluminum rims, I wouldn't go beyond 80 ft-lbs. Use the torque wrench (with the wheel in question on the ground!) to set them correctly. Additionally throw some anti-seize on the studs as well (Pep-Boys, or Auto-Zone will carry that). http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars...mount-of-force Hope this helps! Brian. |

I've had my impact for a week and a half now but haven't had a chance to play with it because of work and the weather here in jersey has been awful.
I agree with you Brian, I won't be using the impact to tighten down any lug nuts (my neighbor already warned me not to do that lol) don't wanna warp my rotors by putting 350 lbs of torque on the lugs. I have my trusty craftsman torque wrench for that. I'll be using the gun primarily to take off the wheels and to do motor work on my Harley. Last time I did motor work on my bike I couldn't get my compensator nut off cause it was on there so tight. |
