How Long Does it Take to Change an Oil Pan?!

So my car has been in the shop since this Monday..2/27 for a leaking oil pan. My car had been leaking a little bit of oil, and the service technician claimed it to be a problem with oil pan. Covered under warranty..no big deal.

I was told that I would get the car back the day after on Tuesday. However, throughout the week I kept getting excuses on why my car is getting delayed...stuff like technician not getting to it, busy day, even as far as this is the first v6 oil pan his technician changed (told me he usually changes the SS)..and forgot to install the cover. Apparantly the SS doesn't have a cover..

Now its Friday..3/2 and I received a call saying that the technician installed the oil pan and now realizes there is an imperfection on it. So now they are overnighting another oil pan and reinstalling.

I'm usually pretty patient and understanding about this kind of stuff..especially since everything is under warranty and repaired for free. However, I have a feeling that I am getting the run around and now I'm very very suspicious of what is going on at the service bay. And the worst part..there is no way of me knowing. How long does it normally take to reinstall an oil pan?

Thanks for reading! I'm trying to blow off steam because I am extremely frustrated!!!

Its not as simple as it sounds, they need to either lift the engine or drop the front frame to get it in and out. So if it took 2 days that seems reasonable, however a week is pushing it a bit but i guess possible if they had the problems they are saying.

The time where I get screwed is waiting for parts, other than that its in and out as quickly as they can. I once had to wait a month for three driveshaft bolts... I could have LEARNED how to machine out bolts faster than they came

I see. Yeah, I have zero clue of what it takes to change out an oil pan, that's why I feel so lost since I have no time frame. It just seems odd that the tech says it'll be done the day after..but it has been dragging on for a whole week.

It seems the opposite for me so far with this experience. They have the parts and seem to be getting it quickly..just either not very adequete at doing this install or it could very simply be my poor luck.

If they're messing with the oil pan it takes a while. I had the same problem. Dropped my car off on a Thursday, got it back the following Monday.

Sounds like they are making excuses, but also trying to do it right...heard a few stories about botched jobs by techs that had never done a certain type of repair before, just to get it done soon or as promised, etc...at least if its not right when you get it back, they'll already be out of excuses!...

That's a lot more difficult than you think ...

You could run into the same problem that I had - the exhaust on my car broke a weld on one of the baffles and the entire stock exhaust had to be replaced. The problem - they had never done this at the dealership and it took longer than they expected. On top of that, they scratched the black rear diffuser and had to put on another one because they didn't know how to take it off.
