BA Rear Speaker Rattle...SOLVED!
Ok. Rear speakers were rattling bad, well bad enough to annoy me. Heres what I did. Ran to Lowes. Got 3/4" self tapping screws. 8 screws in bag for .98 cents. I got into trunk and screwed from bottom up into plastic speaker housing. There is about 1/4" to 3/8" lip for the screw to catch the plastic. I made a diagram. The red is the plastic housing, the black is the metal deck. Just used slight pressure so the screw didn't wander. If you do it right you will hit metal then screw into plastic. Put all 8 screws into it(4 per speaker) just like "normal" 6x9 screws would be placed. Tried stereo and no more annoying buzzzz!!! No if I really crank it up there is a faint buzz, but its not from the speakers,I think its from a panel touching somewhere. But only noticeable when its above 24. Hope this helps people who didn't want to take the back seat and panels off. I'm not to good with Paint, but you can see where I put the black stars is approx. where I put the screws in.

I stuffed some foam strips (used for sealing around window a/c units) in that gap and solved my rattling. Now just need to find a way to stop the door speaker rattle.

Well, its dark here right now. I can try to take some tomorrow if its not raining. No garage..... All I can say is what a difference. I really don't think I need or want to upgrade my speakers. If I lived in the car that would be one thing. I have the factory sub turned up 2 notches before max fader set to +1 rear bass on radio is set to 5. Sounds really good now.

I made this video last year before I installed a aftermarket sub into my car... Since I put a another sub in the trunk, I turned down the stock 6x9 speakers, so the rattling went away quite a bit. If I turn my Kicker sub up, it does rattle the deck lid some.
Your idea looks very good, something was needed to pull these pieces together so there was no room for the rattling to take place. Post pics if you can just to give a better idea! |

Ok guys, I totally forgot about the pics. But here they are. You can see the shiny silver screw heads in the pics. If you do this, once the screw goes through the sheet metal,DON't push. It will lift the speaker. It will still make threads. Just reverse it all the way out and go forward to screw it back down and you will see the screw pull the speaker tight against the metal. Ypu can see in 3rd pic where I missed the lip of the speaker. You have to go close to the edge of the sheet metal.

Very cool!! You are using the speaker frame as reinforcement to the speaker deck. I'm gonna give this a try too.
