Very specific L99 cat-back question
Very specific exhaust question... On an L99 car *with stock manifolds and cats,* how does the 3-inch MBRP exhaust sound compared to the 3-inch Stainless Works "retro chambered" system? I love the sound of the Stainless Works but it will not get me through the strict visual inspection where I live.
Here is the MBRP system in question: "3" Dual Cat Back, Round Tips, T409 - MBRP Ltd" https://store.mbrpautomotive.com/en/...tips-t409.html I'm open to other 3-inch systems as well but they seem to be almost universally limited to manual cars. I'm not interested in "axle back" or "muffler delete" systems (again, must pass visual state inspection in which mufflers must be present). One other note, I completely realize I do not need the flow of a 3 inch system on a basically stock car, I just want a deep tone.

I’m not sure why SW retro chambered catback wouldn’t pass a visual inspection. It has plenty of mufflers still. Heck, my Solo Mach XL catback passed a strict visual inspection and it only has a muffled x pipe.

Yup agree, multiple private inspection stations have told me the same thing despite me showing them documentation from SW, and I've even consulted with SW. My options at this point are to get a new cat-back or to move to a different county.

On a side note, get involved in your local government town hall meetings and petition to have some of the local nonsense withdrawn.

Still interested if anyone has input on MBRP or other 3-inch cat-backs!

In case you are wondering, the only difference between the auto and manual versions of nearly all these exhausts is the inclusion of another muffler in the center section for the automatic cars, to cut down on AFM drone. I just wanted to make sure you understood that it is not a fitment thing. The manual exhausts will fit perfect on the auto cars, they will just be a bit louder as they have no center muffler or resonator to quiet AFM transition.

Can you not just put a stock exhaust on for the inspection and then go back to your SW after?

Spintech... its a chambered muffler similar to Flowmaster but better imo. It will give you that deep tone.

There are people I work with that don't need inspections at all because they live in a rural area.... I've thought about getting a PO box at their Post Office and register my car there... But that is Illinois and we do things half-assed here.
