Loud Vibration in engine bay when cold

2013 LFX - No Mods

Whenever allowed to sit and cool for more than a few hours, when I start my car there is a loud "buzzing" noise from the engine compartment that I can't identify from above with the hood open.

It goes away after ~ 1 minute

It gets louder when the ambient temperature is colder. IE last night it was 17 degrees out and the noise was louder than I've ever heard it.

I was assuming it was an exhaust heat shield or something. I brought it to the shop but they said they never started it cold so they never heard it and asked I leave it over night

Has anyone experienced this.

Might be the j-pipe heat shields. Had mine do that but then started vibrating and making noise at stop lights while warmed up. A weld had broken loose on the shield behind the j-pipe had it re-welded and all is good now for me.

Hey thanks! I'll check that out.

Odd that the only person to reply has the same exact car I have. It's not the two-tone tan interior as well, is it?

Any update? Maybe the heat shield is rattling.

No, she has the all black interior. was thinking of having the seat covers re-done with dark red side trim leather though.
